i just got my interview at Palm Beach Atlantic.. is anyone else going? maybe we can all meet up.. my interview is on Sept 29...

Anyone that has interviewed at PBA...

What questions were asked during the interview, were they more heavily based on religion?

Professional Bowlers Association?

I interviewed last year. READ THE MISSION STATEMENT and be prepared to write an essay about it. The school cares more about religion than pharmacy so be prepared to talk about faith more than profesisonal aspirations. They say you'll hear from them in 4 to 6 weeks but I got a phone call in 4 days. They seem easy to get into because a lot of students turn them down after being accepted. It's a good school but you'll know if it "fits" you or not.

I'm at the VA right now on rotations. There are students there from PBA, UF, & FAMU. I've been talking with the girl from PBA. She said that she heard that UF was hard in comparison to PBA. She was also shocked that we do 11 months of rotations, where they do only 8. My rotation is in surgery and she said that they don't offer rotations like that. At UF you can choose surgery, anesthesiology, trauma, etc. PBA has your more generic rotations. It could be that some people turn it down for a more clinical program, not just because of the religious aspect.

That, and the tuition at PBA is VERY expensive, and the rent of an apartment in Palm Beach County is just about like Washington, D.C., $1300 a month!!!

I am originally from ten miles away from PBA itself, and my first piano teacher when I was very young is still there, so I know!

So, if someone was in-state at UF unless they lived within commuting distance, who would go there And UF is still cheaper then PBA with living expenses, versus PBA without living expenses.

Yes Palm Beach county is very expensive. The school is very beautiful though (being close to the beach is good). I just didn't get good vibes when I interviewed there.

Yes, the school is extremely religious, and in the 1980's the music department only did two types of music.

Baroque and classical music from the 1600-1800s and christian pop music.

They are SO heavily christian and there is a a large church across from the library which houses the dank music building along with the basement there.

So, yes, you can feel very uncomfortable going to this school.

I interviewed there in april, I liked the school's facilities and location, but it'll cost a fortune to attend and live there. The school will get you a pharm D same as anywhere, so unless you have specialized clinical aspirations (ie, you want to work retail) it would be fine academically. I feel that I am at a better school now, but I would have been happy there too, though I'd be a lot more in debt afterwards

I didn't get a lot of religious questions, a few, but not many, but you will have to be able to articulate on the concept of being a servant-leader.

I am from that area, although I do not live there any more, my parents still do. I went to high school near PBA at the performing arts high school near cityplace and graduated as valedictorian in 1999.

I remember in the 1980s the area, Palm Beach County, was relatively inexpensive, if you can believe that! And it was that way until recently. I do not know why the real estate, and everything went up so drastically! There are not real jobs there, like in California, Washington, D.C., or Boston! So, I really do not know who can afford to move there anymore! I would advise against going there.

ONe thing, the pay for a pharmacist in retail there just over $100,000 a year. But that is just barely enough to afford to buy a house there, and then you are $160,000 in debt for four years $25,000 tuition + $1300*12!

So if you spread the payments over 30 years what is the loan payment per month? $1500 a month plus now let us see. The average price of a house in Palm Beach County is around $400,000, which places a mortgage at about $2000 a month. So that is $3500 a month just between house and loan payments! $3500 * 12 = $42,000. And the take home pay for $100,000 is about $70,000 after taxes. So you have $28000 left.

I wonder how those people who go to USC (Southern California) pay off their debt. Los Angeles is expensive, and they have the same incurred debt!

Well, maybe my calculations are off, but you get the picture!

Your calculation is pretty close. You make it work...by having a dual income.

Or..get your degree.. and get outta there and live where it's cheap.

I just started browsing SDN today so did not see your post earlier. Did you go to that interview? If yes I think we were at the same interview,😉 though I don't recognize you on SDN and you probably don't recognize me.
