so, i just got an email from pitt inviting me to an interview on march 2nd. needless to say, i almost peed my pants (in a good way). but now, i'm super nervous b/c i've never been to that part of the US and I don't know what to expect. so, for those that interviewed there: what hotel did you stay at and how do you get there? also, what was the interview like? were they laid back? could you joke with them?

i stayed at holiday inn, which has shuttle service to the dental school. it was snowing when i got there. it was very cold as well the day of my interview. as for the interview, it really depends on your interviewer. mine was really laid back, but i heard some people got a very difficult interviewer.

oo, holiday inn sounds nice. how much was the fare from the airport? also, do you have to walk a lot? and are they still doing the little essay at the beginning?

essay after interivew. don't worry about the essay though. i took the 28x from airport to hotel for like 2 bucks or something.

congrats! pitt is a really great school. the whole interview experience at pitt was one of the best.

umm I stayed at the Hampton Inn, which has a shuttle that can pick you up wherever you are arriving from (if its a 3 miles radius) and bring you to the dental school and back to the hotel and then to wherever you are going to (if its a 3 mile radius) plus they have wifi.. free breakfast.. its pretty nice and they have a panera and cvs w/in a 8 minute walk..

i joked around with my tour guides a lot.. also i got to meet some people from the hotel that were also taking the shuttle.
theres a lot of interviewees so be prepared. also being early doesnt really matter cus they start whenever its time.

my interview was really relaxed. i had it with the associate dean of the school, we just talked.. actually he talked LOL and i got to ask a few questions here and there. you also get to eat lunch with a student.. like almost every interviewee had a personal dental student to talk to. students seem really happy and chill, and also the clinics are really nice.

i personally enjoyed Pittsburgh very much. the school in salk hall is straight across from the student housing which i heard was 1000/mo.
my tour guide was a 3rd year and v. helpful, try to go w/ a tour guide who is not a freshmen as they are a greater source of knowledge.

interview w/ dr. piesco. very laid back. he is an anatomy prof. so i talked about his views on teaching anatomy as it relates to dentistry. pitt does only head and neck dissection -- that's it!
also, we talked about animals, books i like to read, fun things to do in pitt, i asked if he liked the city.

another interviewer told me he was asked if u had a million bucks what would u do w/ it.

i think just be yourself w/ an edge of maturity, respectfulness and passion for the field.

the 28x? is that like a bus or something? can i take the same thing from the hotel to the airport? also, isnt the campus like 30 miles away from the airport? and how much walking do you do? i've heard its a lot, and i can't walk that much in my shoes, lol, so i'm kind of nervous about that.

So this is a little off topic, and i dont mean to interupt your thread, but im applying next cycle and i know pitt for example says they want 3 science letters. Those that have gotten interviews there, is this a must? I dont plan on having 3 sci letters, so should i even bother applying? like i know maryland wants a bio and a chem letter, if you dont have them is it recommended to not even apply?
thanks

hey, i actually didn't have 3 "science" recommendations per se. one of them was from my anthro teacher, but i guess they counted it.

does anyone else have an interview at pitt on march 2nd?

Yeah, I do. Just got mine last week too, and I'm soooo excited as Pitt is my top choice! I guess I will see you there!

congrats! are you from pittsburgh? if not, where are you staying and how are you getting around? they said they would email me an interview packet but i still haven't gotten it 🙁

At the airport, by the rental cars, there is a "express shuttle" thing that takes you to the hampton inn along with other hotels for $10 if you have any student ID from anywhere. I got the round trip and it was $20. They drop you at the hotel and pick you up. (Hampton Inn gave me their number) You tell them what time you want to be picked up the next day and they will pick you up at the time from your hotel.

Once you are at Hampton Inn, they have a free shuttle that takes you to the university. If you take the 8AM shuttle, it gets you there in like 10 mins. Oh and when you are checking out, you can ask to leave your bags at the front desk. Then when you are done with your interview, you call them up and they come pick you up in like 5-10 mins. And you can get your bag from the hotel and wait for the airport shuttle which you scheduled.

I had a 6:15 flight and i made it.

I left the interview at 2:30. The hotel shuttle picked me up and got me back at 2:45 to the hotel. I took my bags from the front. I had a scheduled a shuttle to the airport at 3 which got me there at 3:45. So you have plenty of time. Good Luck
