Well every other year has an interview attire thread, time to get this year going.

I bought navy and grey suits with three dress shirts, white, light blue, light purple, 4 ties(they were on special), burgundy shoes and socks matching the suits.

I went to mens wearhouse and feel like I spent way too much money but damn it felt good to be in a well fitting suit. I haven't had new dress clothes in a long time.

What are you all wearing on the interview trail?

The pre-allo men's interview thread is pretty active still. You should just post there.

Nails done, hair done, everything did.

+2 hahah.

Navy propersuit, AE park aves, probably this purple shirt, and some tie.

Yes op, a well fitted suit is wonderful. Tbh I'm worried about sweating a lot at this humid areas this September haha. Ugh.

I got a skirt suit for my August interview. .. want to avoid a swoobs situation as much as possible

Just outta curiosity, how much are you planning on your interview attire?

I'm planning on spending:

~150 on a navy blue or grey suit
~ 20-30 on a light blue shirt
~ 20-30 on a black/brown belt (depending on the shoes color)
~ 20-30 on a yellow or a burgundy tie
~ 70-100 on a black/brown shoes

total = ~280-340

btw, I'm also using a 20% off Macy's coupon 😀

Does my budget seem within range, or should I sell a lobe of my liver?

That's fine, just make sure it's well tailored. Maybe cough up 50-70 more on suit...get like 80% wool, rest polyester.

I have a navy skirt suit...I bought a white shirt/blouse and tried it on with my suit and I felt like an FBI agent....so I took it back and bought a very pale pink shirt/blouse. It works so much better for me.

I am getting excited for interview day!!! 🙂

An adcom member or two on SDN has said before that they like to see a pop of color, otherwise we all look like a funeral procession haha. I have a black pantsuit, so I definitely went for a pop of color with my shirt (a blue-green solid blouse).

When I went on an interview a couple days ago, most of the women had colored blouses on (or if the shirt was white, it worked with their suit--which was usually a light gray/brown).

I hate how no one makes a non-iron white dress shirt without pockets for under $60.

I personally dislike the look of a dark suit with a white shirt. I'll never wear that combination unless it's a funeral.

My suit is charcoal grey. Not too dark, but darker than light. I wore a light blue shirt for my first interview and I recently purchased a light purple shirt for my next. I bought a light pink undershirt for my interview in California as I figure they are more trendy 🙂

Spice it up a little. Don't be afraid of color. You should see my wild socks that I wear

Put color in the tie, don't wear a purple or pink shirt...

I'm planning on a dark navy suit + white shirt + black belt/oxfords + dark striped or dotted tie (burgundy, plum, crimson, or gray.) Boring, but I prefer be conservatively dressed.

Haha, I had a black suit and a white dress shirt. I'm stark pale and I had dyed my hair black a few days before. I was totally vamping it up.

How are you all traveling with your suit?

I will purchase a suit bag and carry the suit with me on the plane. I don't want it to get wrinkled or have awkward horizontal creases. So, no I won't be wearing my suit during the flight trip. I gonna be wearing my PJ's.

Where can you put it? (noob question) haha.

You'll have two options:

1) to nicely ask the attendant to hang it for you in the coat compartment. If they don't have one, or they refuse to do so, then

2) fold it in half and place it in the overhead compartment.

When you arrive to the hotel, turn on the hot shower, hang your suit somewhere in the bathroom (NOT ON THE SHOWER CURTAIN POLE), and allow the steam to remove all the wrinkles.

Put color in the tie, don't wear a purple or pink shirt...
It's more a pastel, light pink and purple. Not talking about a rave pink or purple. My tie is a conservative dark grey. I love subtle hints of color!

Not sure if men's interview suits get wrinkled much more easily than women's suits, but (as a female) I put my pantsuit (folded nicely) in my carry-on luggage and it didn't come out wrinkled or anything. *shrugs*

And I was basically in the airport all day (from 10am til 6pm between security and my connecting flight), so my suit was in my suitcase awhile before I could take it out and hang it up at the hotel.

I just got a typical female black pantsuit (Calvin Klein, $60 suit pants, $80 suit top, $20 colored blouse). Maybe mine is super wrinkle-resistant? 😕

I'm wearing the same color! Are you wearing it to NOVA? (I'm on the 10th)

Option one sounds terrific. Thanks for the advice.

To three-piece or not to three-piece...that is the question

I'm afraid my good looks will intimidate my interviewer and result in a rejection. Should I try to look ugly?

I still find it absolutely hilar that the dudes on SDN care way more about clothes than the ladies. What's up with that?

Cuz it's anonymous and we men are more insecure than you think.

Went in planning to buy a Navy suit. Walked out with a charcoal suit lol.

Oxford blue or white shirt?

I think a lot of guys don't realize how to dress in a suit.. and get blown away by whats considered good or not, so they get worried. *shrug*

There should be a cupcake with Xanax sprinkles for those fellas.

White shirt. Gives more options with the ties without looking too dark.

is plum color appropriate for a tie with a charcoal suite?

Yes. That's very classy looking

I went out of the norm for woman's attire and wore a brown suit from White House|Black Market. It had a 3/4 sleeve and was very well tailored. Wore a white shirt under it and tan patten leather flats with matching purse. As soon as the admission director saw me she complemented me loudly on what a great color and outfit it was. I received remarks like that from others. I don't do fashion well so big win!

Chico also has some amazing suits that are very wrinkle resistant, form fitting and need no tailoring. I got a navy blue one from there as a back up.
