So the time for a lot of us to venture across the country or maybe only across the state to partake in the interview process has finally dawned.

For such a proffesional situation, it is only necessary that we coordinate our attire to the occasion. I, however, happen to know nothing of buying a suit.

I recently picked up a copy of the men's magazine, Best Life off the news stand and thought the suit Josh Duhamel was wearing on the cover would suit me well. What do you guys think?

What is everyone wearing to interviews? Ladies included.

How do you go about picking out a suit?

I like to look good; much like the timeless Ron Burgandy.

a two or three-button suit, black, charcoal grey or perhaps navy, solid or with pinstripes would be the safest choices.

I dont know if "Men's Warehouse" is a national chain or not, but they helped me out bigtime. I went in and told the guy what I wanted a suit for and he told me "I'll do everything for you except help you put on pants" and he was serious...he helped me pick out a couple of great suits with shirts and ties. The price wasnt too bad either.

I suggest finding a local store where the customer service is great.

I got a really nice dark brown skirt suit at Ann Taylor. I would highly recommend going there, especially anyone that is petite. Their petite clothing line is so extensive! The salespeople were very helpful as well. 😀

charcoal grey suit with a three button jacket, matching tie to school color (unless it matches horribly), a pair of Cole Haan's, and a leather portfolio which I have no intention of writing in.

Heh. Fair enough. Figured a portfolio was the best spot to keep business cards, contact information, or other random stuff in one location. Beats napkins or a shirt pocket. Overall, I think I'll adopt the mantra of listening with my ears, and not with my hands (scribbling furiously on a notepad).

They say to stay away from black suits for interviews (job, school, etc.) The color black is too formal and comes on to strong. Thats what they say anyway.

how short is too short for a skirt? Is a little above the knees too short? I'm wondering if I have to go buy a whole new outfit, or if I can just work with what I have.

I suppose the most important thing is that you are relaxed and comfortable in what you are wearing.

I would have to agree that a suit may come across a bit strong. I am planning on just wearing slacks, a dress shirt and nice tie. I really think a suit comes off a bit "slick".

Then again, people from Seattle tend to dress like slobs, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I can guarantee you if you don't wear a suit to your interview, you will be the only one not wearing one.

you said it. i'm going to where some shorts and a Lakers jersey. they probably already talk to tense stuff bags all day... talking to somebody with some life will change things up

How do girls usually dress for interviews?

Just my opinion, but I don't think that as skirt just above the knees is too short. But I wouldn't go any shorter than that. Also, not sure if you were planning on wearing pantyhose (I hate those things :meanie:) but I think it is a good idea especially if your skirt is a little above the knees.

if your interviewer is a male he won't mind. he'll probably even like and encourage it. a possible easy way to get into where you want to go. 😍

if your interviewer is female she'll frown upon you the second she sees you and you'll probably have the auto stamp of disapproval. :meanie:

it's a 50-50 type thing. you only have the rest of your professional life is on the line. no big deal :luck:

Just don't wear a tux! Can you imagine! I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face. Doesn't matter though bc you know there is somebody out there that will.

for the ladies who are wondering how short is too short:

try this rule of thumb: if your skirt length is such that you have to spend some extra time making sure that you don't accidentally expose more than you want, then perhaps it is too short. Fidgeting in your seat while adjusting your skirt to cover yourself up doesn't look good.

Safest bet is a pant suit, but if you want to wear a skirt (I'm all in favor of them, personally), make sure it is long enough that you can sit down confortably without worry of exposure. My thinking is a length that comes down to the top of the knee (when you're standing) would be plenty adequate.

just my opinion.

I concur. The Men's Wearhouse is great. Tell them what you want and they'll work with you -- at least the one's where I shop, they won't try to pressure you into a fancier suit than you need. In fact, they helped me keep the price down by always looking for the most versatile options available.
