Not necessarily just white, but maybe white with light stripes but not something that would make your eyes go crazy. Something subtle but not plain white. Textured might work too, like the ones that are not smooth. Adds a nice hint without being too In'YO'Face type of deal.

You are ALLOWED to do anything you want, but dress like Robert Downey Jr. and unless you have 28/28/28 3.8sGPA....Well, let's just say... for you.

All seriousness though, something light, patterns is ok, just not something ridiculous. As for the tie, grey maybe? Something that matches the shirt.

Better question is.... Some schools require you send them a picture in the secondaries.
Is it bad to wear the same shirt/tie to the interview as in the picture? I feel like that is my best interview attire (in terms of color and patterns) but wearing the same thing just makes me worried... Ideas?
