Long time lurker, first time poster. I am a Canadian applicant, and I have an upcoming interview at an American medical school. Being from Canada, I do not know much about the US Healthcare system, but I am very interested in learning more about it. So was wondering (a) how extensively do schools usually ask about the US Healthcare system and (b) if there is a good source that you recommend for learning about the basics of Obamacare and etc. Thanks yall!! :scared:

Healing of America by T.R. Reid discusses both Canada's and the US's health care policies. But it was published in 2008 so a little dated

TR Reid is a funny guy but he is an economic goof. He has a classics degree from Princeton but fancies himself to be some sort of health care economist.

If you want to read about American health care consider looking up articles by Atul Gawande. He understands the pluses and minuses of the American health care system.

To the Adcom people (@Goro, @gonnif @LizzyM), what sort of basic medical information about the US Healthcare system do you expect from the interviewees?

The only policy related questions I have been asked so far have been about what I think are important upcoming challenges in medicine. I usually talk about disparity, aging, and/or obesity.

Some of my co-interviewers have been asked a little bit about the ACA.

No one will ask hyper-specific questions about particular case studies or data sets or anything (unless you bring it upon yourself).
