Does anyone know exactly when most interviews will take place? I want to schedule another externship for November, but I don't want to go on an interview at another school during that time. Will I be safe with an externship that ends December 9, 2011? Thank for your help.

If your options are:

1) Do the rotation but have to take a few days off for interviews

-or-

2) Don't do the rotation

I see no harm in doing option #1. You'll get your foot in the door. The program will certainly understand that it is peak interview season and if you have to leave for a couple of interviews, I don't think it would hurt you at most places. They realize that most candidates apply and interview broadly. If anything, seeing you leave on a couple of interviews and then come back and work your arse off may make you seem like an even hotter commodity IMO.

So are you saying the earliest interview invites will be sent out first week of Oct?

I actually remember getting my first invite in mid-September for an interview in mid-October (Mayo Jax - they tend to send out invites early). After that, I hit a dry spell until November.

Most interviews will be November - January in radonc.

Would you say going on a max of 2 interviews during an away is safe? Looking at the 2010 thread, it seemed like there were about 11-12 programs that interviewed in Nov, the rest seemed to favor Dec/Jan.

If I get lucky, I;m hoping for 2 in Nov, 6 in Dec, 6 in Jan.

You should expect to begin receiving a steady response (interview or decline to interview) right around the conclusion of ASTRO. Once your MSPE is uploaded NOV 1, expect a final flurry of invites to arrive.

Most interviews will happen Dec/Jan.

The latest interview I went to was the fist week of feb.

I remember being just as paranoid last year, try to relax even though I'm sure you wont.

Good luck.
