Hey guys, I was wondering what do you wear for the tour part/lunch/meetings of the interview day. You wear a suit all day or wear casual and change later? Also should my family come?

Suit for sure, I wouldn't bring mom/dad

u should probably call the school and ask specifically what attire to wear. some may be business casual vs. formal wear. i, personally, would not bring my family.

I'd consider it a professional business interview, where your spot in the class is yours to lose. In other words, wear a suit, trim your hairs, shine your shoes, wipe your nose, and leave mommy and daddy at the hotel.

NO to Parents
YES to suit

I've seen very few dudes without suits during my interviews and they looked out of place. Never saw any parents!!! You are the one going to podiatric medical school, not them. You could always show them around after the interview day is completed.

I never saw anyone with their parents, but I have heard of people bringing their spouses if that is what you meant by family. I had my wife drop me off and she went and checked out the mall and shopping. That was much more important to her than some dumb school

What do most women wear? The only suits I have seen for young women are very expensive, the rest are matronly. 😕

I was just wondering the same thing! I was thinking I might as well just invest in a nice suit from Express or somewhere like that because it's not like I'll never wear it again, a classic suit won't ever go out of style or anything.

If you are married, I think it is an excellent idea for your spouse to come along. They are making a big investment as well by moving to another city and going in debt with you. They will also be losing you to the library and study groups quite often. It is often wise to get their input so both parties can be happy and the best for everyone is achieved.

spouse is appropriate absolutely....

parents, still no.

A suit for sure, either one with pants or a knee-length skirt is fine. You could look at an outlet mall to see if they have any discounts. I found a suit a few months ago at a banana republic outlet for $75 total that normally retails for over $300. This was on clearance, but you can still get a suit there much cheaper than at the regular store.

guys please keep it simpled with the suit! i know it's hard to not wear that pink shirt or tie, but refrain yourself. dark colored suit with white shirt and simple tie will do.

JEWmongous!! Making a mormon joke?!?! I'd have never thought!

Absolutely. Anyone who is making that big of an investment in your future deserves to see what you are getting yourself into.

I would tend to agree, but only to a point.

These are professional programs, and you have to come across as independent and intelligent IMO. Having a parent or spouse tagging along is also somewhat disruptive in a group interview where some applicants have a guest and some do not. How are the applicants supposed to ask candid questions of students/admissions when Timmy's mom is there? Some parents/spouses are also overly agressive and can compete for the attention of the tour guides students/admissions staff, etc.

I think it's a lot better for an applicant to privately bring their spouse, parents, etc around the campus before or after your interview (probably after, so that you can help inform them). The lone exception might be if you're the only interviewee on your day or there's a purely social part of the interview (lunch/dinner after the conclusion of interviews, etc). That is a more acceptable place for your guests IMO.

As an example, I'm sure not gonna have my wife sitting beside me... or out in the waiting room, during residency interviews. We will surely discuss the pros/cons of the programs, she will visit the city/hospitals I'm considering, etc. You have to draw the line somewhere, though. I didn't have my parents sitting at my pod school interview or lunch either... I'm a big boy.

For the interview, as was said, dress like you are running for senator: neat and conservative. Related discussion:

 Professional dress. And like Nat said in the other thread, posted by Feli, don't go overboard on the perfume/cologne.

LADIES- When purchasing a suit, be sure not to buy one that is too tight or too sexy. Someone mentioned buying a suit from Express, which might be okay, but make sure it's conservative. The people interviewing you should not be looking at your ta-ta's or every dimple of fat on your thighs. Yuk!

It's a professional interview for professional school, not a night out at the club, so be sure to dress nicely. 🙂

My opinion: I am married and have parents. I would say NO to parents and NO to spouse. They are investing their time too, but it is YOU that the school is looking at. It cost too much for my wife to fly out with me to the different places, but I would not bring her to the interviews, maybe a school tour before or after the interview. I would make sure she liked the area, not necessarily the program.
Suit is a no brainer!
Summary (regarding the interview day):
No parents, No spouse, Yes suit!

I tend to agree and disagree...let the ta-tas get some exposure to the sun. It is good for you. Remember we are having a problem with vitamin D deficiency and sunlight is great for you. And remember that the people interviewing you should not be looking at them, but your future classmates will appreciate it. If the suit happens to be to tight and sexy, I am sure you will be forgiven.:meanie::laugh::meanie:

Quit, you hurting me ribs

I wore a white tshirt, jeans and sandals. Everyone else that showed up to the interview wore a suit.

So, ladies? What kind of shoes would you recommend wearing? Heels to a podiatry interview????? I know it sounds like such a stupid question, but I am just wondering.

I heard that you should wear low heel (2 inches or lower) or flat shoes. Then again, I haven't been to a podiatric interview, so I really don't know. Just going by what I was told.

This shouldn't be an issue. Show up to the interview alone. Dress conservative/professional (business attire or collared shirt w/ tie + slacks).

I used to have long hair that reached my back and would tie it into a pony tail (cuz i'm gangsta like that). I had to chop that for the interview. I did that for you Pod School!!! It paid off.. you dont want to stand out in the image department...during any interview for that matter.
