I've heard some schools have a basic formula for GPA and MCAT score that determines if a person gets an interview. Above a certain cutoff gives you an interview, and below leaves you waiting for a rejection letter... Does anyone have an idea on this?

LOL, I can't give any further insight into this, but I just wanted to say that I love your screenname! Are you an architect? :meanie: 😀

or a marine biologist?

"I always wanted to pretend to be an architect"

George: "The sea was angry that day, my friends. Like an old man trying to return soup in deli."

George: "As I made my way past the breakers, a sudden calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you Jerry, at that moment, I was a marine biologist."

George: It was at that moment I told her that I wasn't a marine biologist.
Jerry: Well?
George: She told me to go to hell and I took the bus home.

As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said, "Easy, big fella!"

GEORGE: And then, as I watched him struggling, I realized something was obstructing its breathing. From where I was standing, I could see directly into the eye of the great fish.

JERRY: Mammal.

GEORGE: Whatever.

👍

This whole exchange at Monk's has to be one of the greatest written pieces in sit-com history. Long live Seinfeld!

Wow, this thread is a trainwreck.

No but seriously, I read in another thread (Mayo) that some schools have a formula that goes (gpa x 10) + MCAT score >= 67 then you have a good shot at an interview...as to the validity of this formula...I have my doubts

Too many variables on the formula. It doesn't take into account graduate GPA, ECs, or receipt of the Nobel Prize.

take the square root of your mcat minus 4 times your science GPA and then subtract your overall GPA and add 3 points for volunteering, 12 for research, subtract 14 if you did neither of the above and mutiply the result by the radius of your brain and if the answer is more than 7, you have a 33% chance of getting an interview.

Upenn said they had a "rigorous screening process" so i guess they might use something akin to the above!

hahah, no wonder they didn't give me an interview!
now it all makes sense.

If I had a kid his name would be 7.

I guess it's hard to come up with the real "formula" I've got one interview in the bag... waiting on hopefully more. Even if it's a cut and dry system, it's worth taking the chance in applying to certain schools.

And too bad for those who have 6.4999999999 because it has to round off to exactly one significant figure.

Jerry: "He's working on lowering the cholesterol level in whales. All that blubber, it's quite unhealthy. You know, it's the largest mammal on earth. But as George says, they don't have to be."
