I had my interview last week. I went really well with the 1st interviewer, he mentioned I was excellent several times at the end. However, for the 2nd interviewer, I thought I did not do as well as the first one. I was a little bit worried for the 2nd. Would it balance the final evaluation? How much weight would the interview take in the whole package? :xf:

It will depend on how the school sets up interviews.

I've been told that, at my school, one interviewer will be on the admissions committee, and the other will just submit a written review of the interviewee. The committee member's opinion will almost certainly have a larger impact than the non-member. You won't necessarily know which is which, though.

That being said, just because you don't think the interview went well doesn't mean that the interviewer thought the same.

Do most interviewers give you an idea of how you did? I had one yesterday and I thought my answers were well thought out but I didn't get much reaction at all from my interviewer...

Sometimes they can be pretty frank but others will keep things close to the chest. It's a really subjective determination as to whether they provide feedback or not, I suppose.

At the end of my interview one of my interviewers extended his hand and said "I hope to see you during your rotations at <insert his hospital here> in the future." I almost lost my lunch. I'm sure he was just being nice, but it totally made my day.

Mine last week ended similarly...I think he said something like "I hope you decide to come here." I totally walked out of the building with a huge smile on my face, even though they probably say that to everyone.

If it makes you feel better...

When I applied, my school also had 2 interviewers. I really did well on one and I really bagged the second. In fact, the interviewer in the second one had to tell me he was joking repeatedly because I couldn't tell if he was or not (and he wasn't funny). I was pretty sure I was going to bite the bullet because of that.

A week later I got a call from the second interviewer telling me that my interview went very well (!) and I was accepted. When he said the first part, I almost laughed because that one actually seemed like a joke, when he told me the second part I about screamed.

There is hope.

yeah it ain't over till it's over. my interview at the school i'm attending went horribly - yet here i am.

i feel it's mean for interviewers to do this; it sometimes just gives false hope that gets painfully dashed weeks later.

Keep in mind that neither of the interviewers HAD to say that. There are equally encouraging alternatives that don't make you assume you'll receive an acceptance. To potentially set you up for a huge letdown like something an interviewer should--or would--do.

I would take what they say with a grain of salt. I interviewed at a school last year where all 3 of my interviewers straight up told me I would be accepted at their school. I got waitlisted. There is alot more considered than just the interview apparently. I'm sure it can go the other way too where you have a mediocre experience and end up getting accepted.

At one of my recent interviews this year, the interviewer told me that since I had an early interview I would be accepted for sure. I subtly explained that I still depended on a strong recommendation from him and there would be other factors. At the end of the interview he again told me I'd be accepted and that I should choose the school over XXX other school I had interviewed at. Guess we'll see what happens.

Am I the only person who got a stone faced interviewer who gave me NO idea of how things went? :scared:

gauge how well you did by how good you thought your own answers are, not the interviewer's reaction to them.

each person will react differently, some will be nice regardless others will purposely try to be a hard ass to see how well you hold up under pressure.

No, I've had those kind of interviews too, and it drives me crazy. At another school I had to defend my pretty mediocre MCAT scores😱. I guess I thought incorrectly that if you get to the point of an interview, they have already accepted your stats, wrong.:slap:

Mine told me he hopes I get more interviews hahaha prob not a good thing
