Maybes too early to be freaking out about interviews since I just submitted primaries, but...i'm an asian chick with dyed brown hair which is not too crazy but I was wondering if I should dye it back to black for the interviews for a more conservative natural look? Does anyone actually give af?

Having been through interviews, I would say that the hair color you mentioned is almost certainly not a problem.

As with all interviewees, you should pull your hair back into a conservative bun or ponytail, or anything that gets it out of your eyes and face without being distracting. Wear business attire and simple makeup, and conduct yourself with consummate professionalism. The rule of thumb is to dress like you already have the job. Do that, and the interviewers are very unlikely to care about your brown hair. Good luck!

As long as it's not a neon color I think you're fine.

Please chill.

Will it be a factor during interview day? Almost certainly not.

However, gyngyn does have a great point in that if it is something you are second guessing, dye it black. Interviews are stressful enough without fretting over your appearance.

it's not like some asians don't have naturally lighter colored hair i.e.brown. as long as your hair dye is a natural brown I think you're fine!! 🙂

I had royal blue streaks in my hair for a couple of years, but dyed it back to dark brown for interview season. Like @gyngyn said, don't want to wonder about it. My brother got his ears pierced after acceptance last year. Once you are in, you can let your colors shine.

I think any hair color that is naturally occurring should be fine, unless, as the above posters said, this will cause you anxiety during the interviews.

Have you guys ever heard of the Disney dress code for employees? It seems like a lot of their standards regarding hair, nails, makeup could also be applied to med school interviews. http://dlr.disneycareers.com/en/working-here/the-disney-look/

BROWN HAIR!? :wow: :wow: :wow:

I really don't think it will matter. Appearances are less important than you think. I wore a simply awful tie (was much wider than my lapels/shirt collar) to one of my interviews and I was still accepted.

Even highlights are okay honestly. I'm dark with almost black hair, but had lightbrown and blondish highlights and did fine, never got any comments about it. Haven't heard about anyone being affected by it either. If you just wanna be sure, then dye it back. We're not talking "unnatural" hair colors like blue, pink, green, etc lol so you're probably fine.

OK, within reason, I say go with what feels most comfortable for you. So, if you are comfortable and feel that your brown hair is you, than go with that. Who says you have to fit some stereotypical presentation of an Asian person? Seriously, um, it's fair to say that the largest percentage of people with bright blonde hair are that way b/c of bleaching/coloring. Zillions of people have highlights put in their hair. If these things make you feel comfortable and good about you, they are fine. But obviously fuchsia or day glow blue or green, well, that's not conservative enough, and could put you at risk. Same thing with tattoos and nose, chin, face piercings. The new, granny-grey hair colors are probably not a good choice either.

The caption said: "Girls be hating because they know they could never rock the #grannyhair"

LOL: well, at least not for med school interviews.

Oh sheesh. I'm asian and I dyed my hair red- brown and I would be very surprised if the adcomms were to be offput by something as minor as brown hair on an asian girl.
And no, black hair is usually not bleached to get a brown color, so it really is quite inconspicuous in real life, especially as the black roots start coming up afterwards.
This is about as radical as it gets folks.

As long as it's not too obviously a fake color, it'll be okay.

If it's obviously none-natural color (or with roots showing) it's still kinda okay. But in that case, I would personally choose to dye it back for the time being, just to avoid having some interviewers think that I'm "high maintenance and fake".

Also
brown hair=brunette.
