Here is the truth, I got an interview from Penn (awesome school) and I have no idea how I got it (MCAT Low 30's, 3.67 GPA, 3.88 BCPM). I did go to undergrad at Penn, but then I did all my science at a UC. Personally Im pretty sure that regardless of how well I do at the interview, im shooting for a waitlist spot at best. So can that interview even count?

Since I got the interview 2 weeks ago, I have heard absolutely nothing about interviews from any school except rejections from Georgetown and U of Chicago. Ive been complete since mid-August, so probably been placed on the notorious "to be reviewed later" pile at most schools. I cant whine, because then everyone will say at least you have a interview even if its for a waitlist spot, but it would be pretty nice to have at least one interview where I think I stand a chance with my numbers. Anyone else on this sinking ship with me?

p.s. I applied broadly, we are talking all tiers here

I have no idea how Penn factors the interview into decisions, but good luck! When were you complete?

One of my friends that goes to U Penn Med tells me that 60 to 65 % of the classmate had 32- 33 MCAT. I assume it was balanced like 11 11 11. Anyways, your stats are pretty good, and I do think that there are some pple here that have worst scores than you.

I was complete at Penn, August 15th.

We'll see what happens with the interview, but again im being honest here, I dont think I have much of a chance for acceptance against the applicants with 36 MCAT's and 3.8+ GPA's...unless Penn likes my knowledge of robotics and the da Vinci Surgical Robot for some reason.

I am in a similar situation as you, except my one invite is UVM...which is not quite Penn. I was complete at the same time as you and it seems everyone (except Wake) has me on hold.

I have decided that the sanest thing to do is to cut down on checking my status pages and just wait until the end of October. All of those applicants with crazy stats will start getting acceptances and start cancelling future interview dates...which will open up some spots for us. I also keep telling myself, "It's still early...it's still early."

Good luck at Penn. Would be great if all those places have you on hold but Penn accepts you!

look, the truth of the matter is that penn could interview ONLY people with 3.9/39 and above and fill their class after rejecting many interviewees. the fact is, they CHOSE you to interview. while i know the feeling of being intimidated going into an interview where it seems like you don't have a shot, rest assured that adcoms (for the most part) aren't idiots, and have reasons as to why they do things. be yourself, because something about yourself is something they like.

Yah I guess you guys are right, thanks for the encouraging words, and here is to hoping that thousands of applicants cancel interviews after Octorber 15th opening up spots for us!

Ill trade you my interviews at Drexel and GWU for yours at Penn

How interesting would that make our life if we could trade our interviews and acceptances like the stock market?

i bet you're black or hispanic.

unless Penn likes my knowledge of robotics and the da Vinci Surgical Robot for some reason.

way to nonchalantly drop that.... "unless [prestigious university] likes that i have a bachelors from there, and afterwards went and did something novel so I will offer a totally unique perspective compared to the other applicants. oh, and i'm a little older than their average student so I have some experience with life and i have a 3.9 science GPA and above a 85th percentile on my MCAT. Why are they interviewing me?"

See, that was me doing an impression of you. Did you get that?

 well put! Sadly my MCAT is a 30Q, so I think that falls within the 75%, but is quite a bit shy of the nice 35Q average they have over there at Penn. Second, while I do have unique knowledge, I also do not have any publications nor community service as I was in business until last year. So the way I look at the other applicants is, it must be nice to have publications and a solid research background, I bet that goes a long way.

Why not give yourself some credit? i mean, if you want we can all try to break you down, but then i worry about something like you loving me too much (which is understandable considering my finely chiseled body) and me having to break your heart. I can't deal with that kind of stress again. I'm sorry.
It'll be like when the cast of that movie fell in love with me. Just so you know, they still consider that pedophilia. And by "they", I mean the cast of High School Musical II and the prosecutors in my case. Can you see my dilemma?

You're in a bit of a pickle. On the one hand, spending the next 15-20 years in prison only because you are irrestible to any actors on the Disney Channel is not ideal. But on the other hand, being able to put on your application that you have close ties to such high-end celebrities and lawyers should give you that boost you need to get into any of the Southern Californian schools. Tough decision, I guess it all depends on what state you are in and what prison you will be going to if convicted lol
