Interview Information Not Private?

I heard recently that information regarding what schools have offered interviews to a given candidate and, more importantly, where the candidate has accepted interviews, are two pieces of information made available to medical schools. I heard it first as word of mouth (one girl a year above me in school, NJ resident, applied to 'elite' schools and UMDNJ NJMS and RWJ, accepted interviews at six upper level schools and then nothing from the two in state schools) and then again from some current medical students. They told me that medical schools to which you have applied are able to then see which schools extended interview offers and when they are schedule for/were done. I was told the use is so that schools don't waste resources on candidates that may be more interested in other programs (read: using their school as a safer option). I went on AAMC and looked at a lot of documentation about AMCAS but I can't seem to find this published anywhere. Anybody know if schools do in fact get to see where you have been extended interview offers and if you accepted/what the date was? It seems fishy to me but then again the entire process is so rigged in favor of the schools that it would not surprise me one bit if the schools did in fact get the benefit of this information as well.

Any info would be nice even though interviews are still a little ways off.

Not formally, although nothing prevents admissions departments from sharing info.

I haven't heard of this before. The closest thing I've heard is how schools that have already accepted you will be able to see where else you've been accepted to after a certain date (I believe it was in January last year?).

I got a few interview invites from non-highly-ranked schools after having already attended interviews at more higher-ranked ones (two even came after an acceptance). So even if they are able to see this information, it doesn't seem like it'll be used against you.

I do think though that some schools might delay inviting you initially to see if you're treating them as a safety (e.g. they might hold off on inviting you until January; by then, if you were treating them as a safety and already had an acceptance elsewhere, you wouldn't spend the time and money to attend the interview, so they don't waste an interview slot on you).
