Is there a link btw. how soon you get an interview invite (relative to other people) and your likelihood of being accepted? I'm just wondering because a lot of people have gotten interviews at schools where I've been complete before them while I'm still out to dry, and I feel like that's a bad sign about my prospects for those schools.

Also, I know about MD/PhD applicants often being on different admissions "tracks." What about other special groups, like URMs?

Well it depends. Being in the very first group doesn't necessarily mean you're more likely to be admitted but being in the very last group means you're more likely to be interviewing for waitlist spots rather than acceptances. I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point as it's only september, but if you're not getting interviews at those schools by Feb/March, then yeah, your chances are most likely very low.

ah I see... yeah, it is still early. Thanks! And good luck drizzt, though it looks like you're doing great already 🙂

I don't think that URM status will necessarily give a higher chance at an earlier interview. However, I do think that schools will often interview among their top choice applicants earlier in the cycle. Hope this helps!

I think being in the first groups does mean that you're more likely to be admitted. OU goes as far as to say that explicitly on their website, and various deans of admissions have all said (at the interviews) that the average stats for the first few interview groups are much much higher. Filo (at A&M) said that for the 1st 2 interview groups, the avg GPA was a 3.8 and MCAT was a 35. So...earlier = better.

I don't know. I got a quick turnaround and early interview at UVM (my only interview so far) and I am no stellar applicant (3.37, 32 mcat). I know there are many people slated to interview after me there, but were invited before me, who are much more impressive both in terms of grades and extracurriculars. I really doubt my personal statement or letters moved me that much ahead. Personally, I am not putting any stock in interview invite order for anything that occurs before Nov. 1.
