Interview invites 2006

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone heard from Yale lately? I'm sort of surprised I haven't heard either way from them. Send me a rejection already!!!

For those who already have an invite from BWH - have you received a confirmation email yet with the date of your interview? Just wondering if I should be concerned I haven't heard back yet after filling out the online preference form last week. Thanks!

no confirmation on the dates from brigham

Rough day today. Got the smackdown by both Hopkins (though after talking with a Hopkins student decided there was no way I'd interview there) and Northwestern.

I sent in my preferences for BWH last week and still haven't heard anything either.

northwestern must've passed out the smackdowns today; i got one as well...but i'm interviewing at UC, so **** it😡

difficult to understand getting interviews from solid programs (UC, UWash, UTSW, UCSD), but no love from others OHSU, NW??

ucla-olive view
scripps san diego

dumped by yale, NW

NYU you today.

Does anyone have any info on UPENN? What kind of program it is? Does it match its residents well?

I hear ya. Seems some of these invites and rejections are random. Oh well.

I got the NW rejection as well. (ERAS message without an additional email).

I have to admit, hearing you hold a UC invite while sharing my same NW fate makes me feel better. I assumed that the NW reject portended a certain UC rejection. Maybe I still have a chance.

Stanford invitiation by ERAS and e-mail this evening.

Tuesdays and Fridays in December and January (starting) November 28 - December 15, and then from January 2 - 26

Got a NW rejection as well 😡 Oh well. Here's to hoping I get a UC invite as well, if not, oh well guess Chicago was not meant to be.. In the mean time I hope y'all rock in ur interviews 🙂

you and me both. just when one isn't bad enough you get a double whammy. oh well, i guess it wasn't meant to be.

The website lists all of the Penn fellowship matches. What specific information do you want to know?

NYU you today.

Hi all,
I still have not heard from Emory and really want to know the status of my application. Can it sometimes help to call up the program directly? Who do you call? The number on the website? The PD's assistant?
Thanks!

Just call the number listed in ERAS. Mrs. Cuestas should be able to assist you.

I just got an email from her stating that they are still reviewing applications and they will let me know when they are done.

Got the👎 from UCLA yesterday. It came in the regular mail!
I'm now starting to worry a bit...I'm from California, so figured I'd likely get an interview there.

👍 michigan, NW, UChicago, NYU, Einstein, Kaiser SF
👎 UCLA

waiting nervously: UCSF, Stanford I'm assuming these are unlikely given the rejection from UCLA. 🙁

haven't got my interview confirmation for either BIDMC or BWH....so annoying. i guess there are many others with the same situation.

has anyone had confirmation yet from BIDMC?

thanks

no confirmation from BIDMC yet

eastcoast...have you posted your stats before...just curious??😀

yeah, no response here either from bwh re: scheduling. i was about to call before i saw all the posts here.

Same here. No confirmation on dates from either BWH or BIDMC.
Are people going to try and schedule BWH, BIDMC and MGH for the same week?

Yes -- but it's somewhat contingent on MGH offering me an interview... :scared:

ok, nevermind---brigham started sending out confirmation dates

Congrats all the Harvard folks. I just *finally* a LOR from an attending from away elective I did. You think the program will still consider it in my app despite the fact that it's November? I don't want to get a rejection without at least having it reviewd!

I say send it in! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, right?

Any acceptances/rejections from BWH today? Are they done sending out interview invitations?

As an aside, if I applied to UCSD but didn't get an invitation yesterday as one of the above posters did, do I consider that a rejection unless proven otherwise? Or do they send out invitations on more than one occasion?

While I'm flattered to have received invitations already, it would bother me if I got rejected from any program before my Dean's letter is released on nov 1st because you would think that a document that contains a summary of my academic performance in med school would matter...at least as much as anything else that's been uploaded to ERAS....but then again it just suggests one thing: board score cutoffs. Oh well. Pisses me off that you can go to a top ten med school, publish over 10 articles, win a bunch of prestigious awards, work your butt off to get all honors grades during third year, and other stuff that i consider accomplishments and your app can be tossed in the trash if you don't score above an arbitrary number on a standardized test. Are places like that looking for good test takers, or people that will make good doctors?

On the note of UCSD and board score cut-offs -
I had submitted my ERAS app on 10/2, and rejected from UCSD within a week, actually right before I left for San Diego to do an away rotation. Since I was hearing from other places for interviews, I wasn't too worried, however it did bother me some to be rejected before they even see my complete file, including LORs and Dean's letter. So I emailed UCSD to inquire about the weakness of my application and the reason was my board score didn't make the cutoff, mine was 218 (88%). I am AOA with 5 publications but that won't matter. However taking the point of view from a school with thousands of applications, how else do you screen without using numbers? :luck:

5 publications should definitely trump a Step 1 board score! That's how I see it at least. If you have 5 pubs you should get into a good place...so don't sweat ucsd. plus it costs 50 billion $ a year to live there anyway.

well, look at it another way. If you had enough time and energy to do research to publish 5 papers, shouldn't you have enough time to study for the step 1? The fact that we're all in med school already implies that we are decent enough test takers since we made mcat cutoffs for medschool admissions.

Hey guys - an FYI on UCSF - I got my interview invite at 1am EST last Friday night (what is up with that?) and responded immediately because I am trying to coordinate West Coast interviews with my spouse's vacation in December. Was told yesterday afternoon that the only dates they have left are Jan 8,11,18,22 and that they are already booked for their December dates! Annoying. This of course may change but I hope this helps people's planning.

Now please don't take this as bragging - I also haven't heard from NYU, Einstein, and Yale despite getting interviews at the "big ones" and being a New Yorker! This process IS SO WEIRD.

Best of luck everyone.

Interviews: BWH, Columbia, Cornell, Mount Sinai, Penn, Hopkins, UWash, UCSF, UMich, Baylor, UTSW
Waiting: MGH, NYU, Einstein, Yale

Got a lot of interviews from mediocre programs, got shut out of the elites, until OREGON hit me today!! I would give anything to do my residency there, but what kind of chances do I really have. It is a long expensive trip for me???

Dude awesome invite. If you already think it's going to be a potential #1 choice and you've got a free date then definitely go. Who cares if it costs $500. We'll already be graduating with a mortgage over our heads, what's a couple dollars more-- when you're 45 and living comfortably, you'll regret not purusing some opportunity which seemed moderately expensive at the time. If you already love it, have the time, and can really envision yourself there, shut your eyes, sign the check, and kick arse at the interview. Whether you match there or not, at least you gave yourself a a chance.

I also haven't heard from NYU and Einstein although I heard from the rest of the "big" East coast ones - I think they are just ***ing slow.

montefiore today. nyu a little bit ago.

nycmdphd8, that's an awesome list.
Do you mind posting your stats?

Thanks; I'm excited. I'm going to decline the stats, I'd like to keep this anonymous. Plus, md-phd applications are looked at differently anyway.

Thanks for the kind words. 🙂
Just heard from Montefiore, here are the dates they sent me:
Friday, December 15
Tuesday, December 19
Tuesday, January 2
Friday, January 5
Tuesday, January 9
Friday, January 12
Tuesday, January 16
Friday, January 19

I read that their interviews start in November, so these might be the dates left.

Yes, I heard that if you are Md/Phd applying in IM, you are very likely to end up at a top academic program - unless you score less than 200 on Step I AND really screw up on your third year rotations. Check out the Md/PhD match for 2004-2006:

Hey,
does anyone have an idea of a phone number to call to follow up on our interview date form? A person we should be speaking with? I don't really want to keep waiting to buy my tickets especially around the holidays. thanks.

It has been helpful to read when others have heard from programs.

It is awful frustrating to have to send in lists of possible dates to multiple programs and then not hear for a week. It makes scheduling a nightmare. The scheduling gods (ok, its my own damn fault) have resulted in an interview in NYC the morning after a Boston interview. I guess I'll have to read about the program on the train-ride down. Still crossing my fingers that I can cram all my interviews into 3 weeks, so that I can get out of town for a little florida sunshine.

Interviews: BWH, BIDMC, BU, Cornell, Columbia, Mt. Sinai
Waiting: MGH, NYU

Good luck all!

How many interviews are most people attempting to attend? I think I overapplied (applied to 35 schools). I have three instances of interviews in different states back to back because I need to save money to do all of the interviews. It will be stressful, but I think it will work. In one instance, I definitely will do it. The others, I may drop depending on what happens with the 11 schools I have not heard from yet. Don't worry -- I think many people do this. Got 6 invites in the last 5 days (2 today), so they are still coming.
