Anyone heard anything from UMass or UConn?
I haven't heard from UMass or UConn either. It's virtually impossible to get a living sole from UMass on the phone. As for UConn, I did speak with one of the nice secretaries a couple weeks ago and she said that my application hadn't been reviewed yet (even though I submitted Sept 1, completed mid-Sept), since they got over 2,000 apps this year. But she did say that she would put my file on the "top of the pile" since I called and showed genuine interest in the program and that I should hear something in a few days...well that that was 2 weeks ago and still no word! Either way, I might try calling UConn -- it might work for you..

So does not hearing from a program mean rejection? Will they send rejections to people, or will they just not send an invitation and keep people wiating til say...january?

some progs send direct rejections. however, i think most progs dont send out rejections because if someone cancels an interview, they can give that spot to someone else, so they just keep you hanging. if you dont hear from a prog, most likely you're on that hold pile so just pray that someone cancels 😛 also it could mean that they haven't reviewed your app, but by now, (unless you just applied), i would imagine most apps are reviewed

how could apps already be reviewed? some schools haven't even started sending out invites yet.

i was referring to schools that have sent out invites, ie to those who are concerned that someone else got an invite and they didnt

Be careful making all encompassing statements on these threads. If you have some insider knowledge about a particular program then great, everyone wants to hear about it. But if you are surmising then its detrimental to the group.

There are a number of different ways to approach the selection process and I would guess that every program is different.

I received an invite from UConn Health Center in Farmington on Thursday.

I called them on Thursday and was told that my application was being reviewed and that it would be another week or two until I heard anything. I've heard that UConn medical school has a strong primary care focus, is the same true for the IM program? I hadn't heard anything along those lines but I talked about wanting to stay in academics in my PS, not sure if that has any impact at all...If they've started sending invites and I was told it would be a while before I heard anything, that makes me think I'm not high on their list. Argh the overanalyzing!!

Don't overanalyze. I have no idea the answer to your question. Keep in mind that schools will send out multiple batches of invites... sometimes alphabetically... I tend to be near the front of the alphabet. I submitted my app on Sept 1, and I think it was complete (including chairman's letter) by mid sept at the latest. MSPE went out Nov 1st, I heard on Nov 2. Also, didn't someone mention that they had 2000+ apps this year? Don't stress... and good luck!

just to add to the above posts, i called a few programs and two of them asked me what school i'm from, and both said "oh we haven't started reviewing any of the ____ apps yet." (__ = my school) one said "we review the ___ apps all at once, and we do the same for [a few other schools]". it might have to do with whether the school awards AOA status beforehand or if it's not awarded until graduation, as it is at my school. so not only are interviews sent out in batches, applications are also reviewed in batches as well depending on what school you're coming from.

My friend has received at least:

UMich
UWash
Mayo-Roch
U Chicago
WashU

it's not about what i say; it's about what others believe. this is an anon board after all and anything anyone says should be taken with a graint of salt, even if they said they have inside knowledge.

i have gotten invites from programs like Brown, Emory, URochester, UVA, UT-SW but I havent heard anything from Ohio State U.! does anybody else think that's weird? I mean I didn't think OSU IM was very competitive. and I thought UT-SW, Emory, and Brown were more competitive than OSU. maybe I'm wrong about OSU.

Did anyone hear from UCSF or GW this past week?

For the people with interviews at UCSD, what programs are you from? I'm debating if I should call them to let them know that even though I'm from middle of nowhere, I'm really interested in the geographical location b/c my other half may likely be there.

I am confused perhaps you can enlighten me. Is the Cedars Sinai applicant open house invite the same or different from categorical IM interview invite? Thanks.

in their email "open house" is the same thing as an "interview", they just didn't specifically say it, since farther down in the email they say "a member of the committee will interview you and answer your questions".
