Interview invites 2006

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was simply pointing out that you are obviously very qualified to have been invited to MGH, and thus has no need to be self-depracating... my comment wasn't meant to imply that you're not aware that MGH is harvard-affliated...

best of luck!

Yup😉 , 27 is right. I overapplied -- 35 schools. I am not sure how many I will cancel yet or which -- I will attend at least 20 (I really want U Chicago for personal reasons.) I haven't posted cancellations because not many people seem to want to discuss this. (See onco's thread, so I don't want to offend and two people have stated they don't find this information helpful. Previous experience on this board has made me a bit paranoid and I fear someone would infer from my refusal to attend an interview that I felt I was "too good" for that school.)

I think it would be really helpful to know the reasons why you decide to cancel certain interviews. Thanks!

Tough week. Yesterday was MGH and B&W in the morning, and Stanford in the PM, and now I just got an ERAS email from UPenn. 👎

Interviews: UofMN, Hennepin County Medical Center, Abbott Northwestern, Mayo, UWashington, WashU, Yale, BID

Still waiting: UofChicago, UCSF, Duke

Rejections: Northwestern, Hopkins, B&W, MGH, Stanford, UPenn

Adcadet, We have similar rejections lists and heard from the places at the same time all within the last week 🙁

Interviews 👍 : Yale, UWashington, Baylor (Houston), Baylor (Dallas), UTSW, UTSA, UTMB, Brown, Einstein-Montefiore (just heard on Friday!), Wake, UNC, Colorado, Case, George Washington, Miami, Carolinas, Rush, Texas A&M

Rejections 👎 : UPENN, MGH, BWH, Stanford

Still Waiting 😕 : UCSF, Duke, Columbia, Cornell, Emory, UofC, BID, UAB, UT-Houston

Sure, I know you are in the same situation. I will PM you as I decide and you are more than welcome to do the same with me. 😀

I think it would be really helpful to know the reasons why you decide to cancel certain interviews. Thanks!

Ok, I need some advice, I can only interview at one of these two programs (University of Colorado or Emory) due to schedule issues. Which one do I choose?

Thanks🙂

got a rejection from vanderbilt today.

so the only top programs that i got interviews at are Hopkins and WashU. (I also got Brown and Emory but i dont know if people think those are great programs)

Rejections so far: MGH, BWH, UPenn, Stanford, Yale, Northwestern, Vanderbilt...and still counting! 🙂

Hi Folks,
For those of you still waiting on U of Chicago or Duke, spoke with both programs today and this what they said:

U of Chicago - Will have sent out all invites by Dec 1.
Duke - Will have sent out all invites by end of Nov. They do send out rejections

So, my friends, one way or the other, this slow water torture should end by Dec 1 🙄 Till then good luck to y'all. 🙂

I emailed UofChicago and got a very similar, likely automatic, response. This is what it said:
Good morning,
The Internship Selection Committee is still reviewing applications, until Friday, December 1st. Once a decision has been made on your application you will be notified through the ERAS email system, whether you have been granted an interview or not and then you can start crying but at least you'll stop calling and emailing us. Have a wonderful day and thank you for your interest at the University of Chicago.

Hi all,

I have a similar update in regards to the U of Washington. They told me over the phone that they plan to send out all invites/rejections in the next 10 days and that they do send a rejection letter to anyone who does not get an invite.

Best of luck!

Hahahaahahhahaha! IF that is a real, response, someone has a sharp sense of humor. Anyways Adcadet, good luck my friend. However this craziness turns, I will be glad when it is over 🙂 Peace

So there are programs out there that won't bother with a rejection letter? Just kind of leave you in limbo? What a bunch of jerks

got a rejection from vanderbilt today.

Me too....It was my first choice program based on location, so I am a little bummed. Oh well.....I guess it wasn't meant to be!

Adcadet,
That was a real funny response. 🙂 Did you make it up or did UC actually write that?
Google.

Can I ask who you emailed at UChicago? I tried emailing one of the names listed in an email I rec'd regarding rescheduling... and I have not heard back yet. I am wondering I should just call? But, maybe I wrote the wrong person?

Thanks.

Yup. 3 programs I applied to last year just didnt' bother w/ a response. It's pathetic and sad. I had already ruled out all 3 of those programs for other reasons by the time I got around to emailing them to find out what happened but if I was still looking for a spot I would have been pretty upset.

anyone still waiting on Columbia?

Took them only 2 days to reply. That's a good sign, right? The guy's name is Imr. I think it's some sort of ethnic name, and clearly shows the UofC's commitment to diversity. I think he replied so quickly because in my email to him I commented that I appreciated the diversity in residency recruitment staff, and pointed out that the guy in my home office is named Imres and asked if they were related. He didn't answer the last question, so I think they're from rival tribes or clans. I know some programs use secretarial/administrative staff input in making ROL's because it's been mentioned to me specifically a few times, so I'm hoping Imr can at least help get me an interview based on my awareness and appreciation for cultural diversity.

If you call either MGH or BIDMC, they will confirm the interview over the phone. I did not send the schedule request for either before calling and both places gave me the dates I wanted over the phone. I have then received an email confirmation from BIDMC.

Anyone get a confirmation from MGH yet and/or did anyone else call? I'm gun shy about calling after I called for an interview confirmation at another institution and got reprimanded for calling because of how busy they were 🙁

I called MGH today to confirm my interview date and they were very nice ... they mentioned that an official email confirmation wouldn't go out until next week.

ha ha! ...freakin' hilarious. Yes, UC does get very excited about diveristy. There is definitely no shortage of diversity here. So, your little plan might just work. Anyway, for anyone else in the same boat... Ms. Jenkins actually got back to me today and kindly rescheduled my date. 😉

Did they actually confirm your interview date? ....like should I call, too? Or should I just shut up and wait for the email? 😎

Did the Brigham also confirm interview dates yet? I responded about a week ago and haven't heard back yet.
Thanks!

I responded last Thursday and they confirmed my date on Monday (yesterday), so they should be getting back to you.

Also got the expected UCSF rejection today...blah.

So final tally (almost):

Interviews:

Rejections:
MGH, UCSF, Penn

Still waiting on U. Wash but not really caring at this point.

Are you sure Imr isn't really just an acronym for internal medicine residency rather than the name of an individual? Just curious...

El Paso Tx just sent me a rejection!! the funny thing is I got an interview invite from them a month ago but I never called because I didnt like the location etc etc.

This process is so funny at times!!! LOL.

I thought Adcadet was joking especially with the email he said came from Chicago. Was he serious?
What do you mean? I called up the UofChicago's main number and spoke to Imr today. I spoke slowly and loudly, but he still acted like he couldn't understand me for some reason. The line then went dead, and nobody answered for the next hour when I tried calling back. When I finally got through he said it must be because of the construction nearby. I didn't know there was construction around the UofC, but hey, the place must always be changing. He reassured me that they understood my problems and will notify me by December 1st. I really think I'll get an interview as Imr said that he would note this "incident" in my file which I think is their way of tracking emails, phone calls, etc. They must really care about interest in their program. I'm really excited about the UofC and am now looking to buy a house down there.

Dude.. this is a MOST righteous April Fool's joke 😀 , but perhaps a bit early 😉

To those that received invites from UCLA, do they send out invitations via postal mail too (since I hear they're sending out rejections via postal mail)?

Thanks.

Not sure, but mine came via email.

Got my last two interview invites: UCSF on Monday and Yale yesterday. As to the question of whether UCLA sends postal mail interviews, mine came through the mail. I hope that everyone who is still waiting on interviews gets news one way or the other. Honestly, I was just sick of waiting and checking my email all the time. see you guys on the interview trail. I think that I will actually be tossing back my Yale interview as my fiance isn't into their program.
Final list:
OHSU
UC Davis
UCSF
Stanford
UCLA
Pitt
Michigan
Mayo
UNC
UVA
Duke
Pitt
Brown
BWH
MGH

One more rejection in the last few days: UCSF

Waiting: Duke, Columbia, Cornell, Emory, UofC, BID, UAB, UT-Houston

Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. I've been waiting on my final 3 programs, Cornell, OHSU, and Wash U. I decided to call them today to ask about the status of my application. (Your millage may vary.)

Cornell: will send invite/rejection "over next week or so."
OHSU: has reviewed my application and will send invite/rejection "soon," "probably by Monday."
Wash U: My application is "complete." Invites and rejections will be sent through "mid to late" December

Thanks for everything. Please keep posting invites and rejections. Even though I know this place is just a rumor mill, I still find myself checking it several times a day.

Good luck and happy holidays.

To those that received invites from UCLA, do they send out invitations via postal mail too (since I hear they're sending out rejections via postal mail)?

Thanks.

I got the initial invite via email, and once I replied they sent me a confirmation via postal mail (along with a map and instructions).

Out of curiosity, how many of you guys are being invited for a pre-interview social event (e.g. dinner the night before) and at which programs? On some invitations that offered interviews on several days a week, some said that those interviewing on one particular day (e.g. Tuesdays) would be taken out to dinner the night before, but that offer wasn't given if you chose to interview on a Monday or Friday, etc.

I've been offered dinner the night before at UCLA, UCSD, Yale, Scripps-Green, and JHU-Bayview, and these are all just resident-applicant events, which I think is great. The reason I wish the other progams offered something like this is because I think I learn the most about the programs from talking directly to the residents in a casual atmosphere outside the hospital, and you get the chance to see if you really fit in well with the other residents socially, not just professionally. Any thoughts?

Have an interview at UCLA very soon, but their postal mail did not reach me. Could you please post interview day instructions and instructions for the night-before social. Thanks a lot!

adcadet is one funny guy. hope we match at the same program man.

good luck to everybody. remember it's just one more step in the hazification..

anyone got interview dates for baylor college of medicine for dec/jan? thanks.

anyone got interview dates for baylor college of medicine for dec/jan? thanks.

the dates are not specified. Here is what the email says:
"To schedule an interview, call the Medicine Residency Office at (800)
553-9559. Interviews will be held from November through January. You must call at your earliest convenience to confirm with our office that the date you desire is available. "

If you hear from a program (especially one that has been handing out invitations pre-MSPE) now, late November, early December, is there any point in going to the interview? I mean, it's pretty clear that you are at the bottom of their rank list, right? What's the point of wasting your money interviewing? Or am I way off about this? Any success stories of folks who heard from programs really late in the season, interviewed, and actually matched there??

an interview is an interview. you didn't have to beg for it. maybe yours was the last app reviewed. if you like the program and have the $ to go interview there, you should go.

Hey folks,

Just wanted to let people know U of C is STILL handing out many interviews! I know somebody that got one several days ago and I just got one on Tuesday.

I spoke with a friend that did an away rotation there and a resident he worked with told him that they often send invites late. The resident received his invite at least a week AFTER Thanksgiving!

Also, can we make a separate rejections thread on here??? I think it would be great to have a place where we can talk about programs that are "unable to interview" us - I love that line!!

I am completely stuffed.....and remembered I didn't wish any of my future colleagues a Happy Thanksgiving....so HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday.

For those that are not in the US and/or do not celebrate Thanksgiving.....you're lucky that you did not gain an extra 60lbs like me....what can I say? I was hungry😛 (jk)

Cheers.

one thing i noticed is that when programs send you interviews they say "invitation to interview" in the e-mail title, but when it's a rejection, they have some ambiguous title like "regarding your application to MGH" or something like that... funny i guess. whatever screw them.

UPENN site is down, does anyone know when their interview day ends?
