I got the Utah rejection too. I thought it was funny they try to make us feel better by prefacing their statement with "Although your credentials were outstanding...". Ha. So outstanding that you are going to reject me. Thanks. :bang:

Dermaholic -- regarding Wright State vs Marshfield. Wright State has 2 spots, and Marshfield has 3. They both interview the same # of applicants. Therefore, seems like Marshfield gives you a slightly better chance of getting a spot (if your method is to maximize your chances of matching). So unless, you have personal ties to either Dayton or Marshfield, then I'd go with Marshfield if I were you. Don't worry, I'm not biased for this example, because I didn't get an interview to either Marshfield or Wright State. :cry:
Anyway, I hope you find a way to schedule them so you can go to all your interviews.

Errr I know I said I'd update the list... got distracted by some errands. I had to walk to a store to buy some water because my friend doesn't have any water in her house! 😕

legitimately, take away the last two blurbs, and add 260+ step2, and LOR from tippity top faculty, and you've nailed it.

I have to remind myself of the class of human being vying for these coveted spots. It's like the caste system in India. I am a peasant. Sweatybrain is royalty. No two ways about it.
 
OK here’s the updated list finally. There’s always a program or two that falls through the cracks, so this work is not for nuttin’. 😀 (e.g. this time around, for some reason UCSD fell off the list). I changed the Stanford date from 11/14 to 11/24... because I'm pretty sure Stanford invites only recently came (11/14 seems rather early no?). Please change back if you know this is wrong.

I PM’ed the person who was asking for the Brown interview date switch on the other thread and he/she kindly provided the info.

I’m so glad Thanksgiving is here. It’ll give me a few days free from getting my hopes up every single time I get an email. (and maybe these recurrent nightmares will let up! 😱)

This phenomenon should self correct after thanksgiving, what with the forthcoming inevitable deluge of interviews.

Then you'll have to tolerate squeals of joy rather than statements of anguish.

Truth is, this thread is pretty much sustained by all comers, those with the interviews and those without.

I think you'd be very hard pressed to change the way this thread operates this far into the game.

Maybe just scroll past those coments that aren't all business.

Also, you might have had a little more success with this endeavor if you chose not to refer to your potential future colleagues as pathetic.

Probably not the best choice of words if you're trying to promote an idea for change.

And just to dispell any notion of passive aggression on my part, yes, I was personally offended by your post.
 
Am I the only one who doesn't read a negative connotation from the word "pathetic"? I always think of it as the first definition, which is "arousing pity, sympathy, or compassion". Granted, the other definitions include "scornful pity", but I always preferred the first. Maybe I'm just an optimist.

OK sore eye replied already... but I also felt compelled to reply.

I think all the comments by the users (including the self-deprecating ones) really adds to the charm of this thread.
We are NOT about to start a new thread called "The B!tch and Moan Thread".
How inefficient would that be? I preemptively censored that word in case SDN doesn't allow words, even words that mean a female animal.

I also noticed that comment was your first post. :annoyed: so that gives you even less right to tell us what to do with this thread.

This thread is also much cleaner than most of the other threads in other specialties listing interviews.
It's not that hard to go to the end (you know how to do that right? There's a link from the main derm page... I can send you a screen cap if you want), scroll up to see the most recent list. The list is getting really huge, so it's impossible to miss such a large entry.

I vote to keep this thread as is...

Anyway, I don't mean to come across antagonistically. Please feel free to chime in with your interviews, rejections, and other comments. 🙂 If you don't want to do the cut and paste thing, just submit an entry with what you got and the next person usually incorporates it into the list (whoever has access to a computer).

Fidicinal, I usually like your comments, but this is just pure gratuitous schlock.

No person in their right mind could infer anything but a negative connotation from the word 'pathetic'

Let's try this out in the following scenario,

A parent teacher conference:

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, your son's reading comprehesion is pathetic.

vs.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, your son has struggled in his reading comprehesion and may benefit from special education.

The second response is a bit longer and takes a modicum of extra effort, but the result is better because it does not alienate people and suggests a solution to a perceived problem. This is the tact the new poster should have taken, especially when entering a months-old thread that has been actively supported by those people whose behavior he aims to change.

while i do not post often, i do visit this page many times a day to see what is going on with invites, rejections, etc...i think this forum is just fine the way it is.

i think the self deprecation is perfectly fine. i'd rather have that, then the other extreme...where all we'd see were pompous remarks regarding # of invites...etc.

and yes, in an ideal setting...maybe it would be best to save both positive and negative remarks for other posts. but so far, we've learned to accept all sorts of emotions...i think it helps people cope with this madness.

so to show up one day and make such a request out of a 1st post is... ahemmm...pretty pathetic. 👎whatever that word really means anyways...
 
I'm away for less than 24 hours and return to find this thread in the middle of some kind of petty drama. I don't think it's fair to ostrasize other posters (why mention kralwok?) C'mon guys, let's pull it together. We're Team SDN Derm 2010!

It's a hard year for any derm applicant and emotions run high on here. I think the thread could benefit from more positive posting although I completely understand that some people are in dire straits. I like to come here and relate to other applicants during such a rough time.

We represent dermatology through our forum and it's not looking great at the moment. Let's all just enjoy the holiday weekend, pass out in a diabetic coma, and wake up for a new round on Monday. :claps:

I'm sorry. Re-reading my original post, and all the responses, has made me see how unecessarily harsh it was.

I, too, am worried about this whole process. I'm in need of some interviews and check this site daily to get a heads up of the rejections to come. With the exception of sore eye's comic relief, the other comments are so sad. I was just getting tired of it.

Kral is awesome and is one of the most thoughtful contributors around here. Isn't there an "ignore poster" function? I suggest you use that if you find some of us "pathetic" or negative.

They were actually sent through ERAS on both Friday and Saturday. Not really sure how that worked since ERAS was supposed to be closed......

When I was a wee lad my mammy would spin yarns about how if you feed trolls they turn into butterflies that rain candy rainbows from the sky and everyone gets a free lollipop. Maybe if we weren't so wrapped up in this derm hullabaloo, and fed a couple poor starving trolls, our fortunes would change and interviews would rain from the heavens like magical dewdrops of wisdom.

plus, alsoapp2derm isn't a troll. he just accidentally brought brass knuckles and a sawed-off shotgun to the party, when the price of admission was merely a high tolerance for neurosis.

Didn't they only recently open up on ERAS? That does sound fishy...
I can't believe they would reject you if you rotated there. 😱 I thought it was a given that a student would get an interview if they rotate somewhere (the only exception is UCSF where I heard they don't interview all rotators... maybe because there are so many rotators and it is so competitive).

I was bracing myself for a downpour of rejections after Thanksgiving. Each new email makes my heart race a bit. Yeah I know I have problems. Maybe I should take a beta blocker or talk to a psychiatrist.

Today...
1. I got that Iowa rejection, with a bunch of blah blah blah about not reflecting on my candidacy in general....
2.Some crap about a transitional program canceling itself that I was scheduled to interview for on FRIDAY... NOT COOL!
3. I have acquired a stalker, i think he wants me for my brains 🙂
4. Went to the dermatologist and got some retinoid cream to make my skin extra pretty for these interviews about to start rolling in
5. read SDN derm posts for about 2 hours instead of being productive
Tomorrow better be a better day!
