Interview Invites

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to all that have gotten interviews so far. I thought I would just share mine and my credentials to ease those who have not heard yet.

And to put it bluntly, I am not in the top part of my class. Pretty average 3.0 pharmacy student, some C's mixed in here and there. Lots of clinical work experience, couple publications, so-so organization experience, excellent letters of rec. And I personally I had feel that I had a real strong letter of intent.

For all of you guys that have not heard, don't lose faith, patience is key!

Congrats to everyone!

None of our applicants had less than a 3.5 and I think all but one have a prior Bachelor's degree. It's tough out there, kids.

I feel like this was me last year...I applied to 12 big name programs with the exact same thought process and didn't match anywhere. Overall, I'm happy enough with how things have turned out at this point, but I think it would have been more beneficial for me to get into a smaller program versus no program at all. I just had that all or none mentality at this time last year. Obviously it is a personal choice for each individual, but I think you are making the right decision to apply to other programs even if they aren't exactly what you had in mind.

Yeah, I quickly realized that I needed to change my way of thinking. Even if it doesn't take me to what I had originally hoped for, I really want to get the extra training and experience.

Although I've been surprised by the amount of rejections, I realize that's the nature of the game now. I'm really thankful for the invites I do have. Some of my friends who are probably better candidates than me haven't received any invites.

I'm seeing anywhere from 4:1 to 25:1 applicants:spots. I don't know how the 25:1 sites are weeding out who to interview but that would explain why you guys are getting more rejections than you thought. With each PHORCAS app being about 40 pgs long...well it's hard to imagine going through them all with a fine-tooth comb.

If the program is in pre candidate status, should I still participate in the match to rank it? Thanks

Congratulations to you! What type of places did you apply to-academic, community, etc?

My stats:

Applied to: 9
Interviews: 6
Rejections: 0

Like I have said before, I have applied to a wide variety of places so that I think is why I'm having success so far.

I believe you. University of Utah (got rejected) had 135 or 136 applicants this year for 4 spots. On that note, I guess I'll do my stats too.

some programs application deadlines extend till march 7th. How do they interview and participate before the match deadline submission date of march 8th?

9 applications... 3 reciept of applications. 0 interviews. 0 rejections.
Starting to get nervous.🙁

Starting to get nervous, as I still haven't heard from 9 programs.

I applied to 4 programs (location restricted due to have a family) and I've heard nothing back yet. Plus I'm out of town (and the country) next week so now I'm super nervous.

I have a question about phone interviews. Since we only get 10-15 minutes, what can we do to prepare?

Among those interview invites, did you get any from CA?

I applied to one program in California, and I received an invitation from them on Wednesday (1/16).

Do you really wanna be a resident at a place that makes its students not even residents work 90 hrs a week ? Chillax my resident is reviewing apps and said they just barely started.

This is my 11th day of working in a row on a rotation - I dunno if this is even legal for students.

I mostly applied to big name programs. So far I have 1 interview, 4 rejections, and 1 wait-list (LOL I thought this was funny, I just assume it is a rejection). still waiting to hear from 6 more. The good news is that the place that invited me for an interview is one of my top choices!!!!. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Awww but think about how much you are getting out of that rotation. I'd rather do get trained well and be set for my life when I graduate than not knowing how/ what to do with drugs. How are you in the process of application?

This was fun maybe like the first two month - a year of this and I am over. I know I am learning a crapload - the good thing about UC is they treat their students virtually the same as residents so right now for example me and resident cover two different teams but have same patient load and same responsibilities. I def feel ready for resident but Heard nothing so far.

I am sure we will hear back soon. They are perhaps using this coming 3 day weekend to go through the application. I am being positive, yeah positive. ( I almost cried last night. So depressing that I don't hear back from anyone when most of my friends hear back from programs they have applied and even getting fellowships) Anyways, good luck everyone and let's keep sharing the good news and bad news!

Best,

I would anticipate similar basic questions that you would get during an on site interview
- Why a residency
- Why that program
- What's unique about you
etc
etc

That was not how my short phone interview was. They asked behavior based questions-there were no basic questions.

so when programs say if anything changes we will contact you, that just mean you're rejected until further notice right?

I now have 3 invites (2 in PA and 1 in MN), 1 rejection from a program in WI, 1 acknowledgment of receipt of application, and am still waiting to hear from 7 other programs. I can't wait until this is all over with!

New tally: 3 interviews, 6 rejections, and 4 unknowns. I can't wait to find out what's going on with these last four. Good or bad. I'm tired of checking my email obsessively. 😛

I just got an email saying a program can't offer me an interview at this time but are keeping my file "active" and will let me know if there are any cancellations. So I'm basically taking this as a rejection.... Do they send this same email to everyone they don't offer an interview to?!?

I've gotten two of this from my rejections, i think its a rejection but with possibility of interview if somehow the people they invited declined.

Ya I agree with you on this. Who is going to decline an interview?

I do have one friend that all of the available interview dates will not fit into his schedule. So unless something gets rearranged, he will have to turn it down. If you look at old threads, people have sometimes been offered interviews after receiving an email saying they weren't going to get an interview. I don't think it is very common though.

If nothing else, that gives me a little hope. Thanks!

I received another rejection, and my first 2 interview invitations today. 🙂 The rejection and 1 of the interview invites did not surprise me, but the other interview invitation did! Hang in there everyone! There is still a lot of time left.

Also remember to keep checking your junk mail folder, one of my notifications was in there today.

My stats:
Applied to: 9
Interviews: 2
Rejections: 3

I finally got my first two interview invites today as well!!
2 invites
9 unknowns

Has anyone heard from the programs in Philly or University of Maryland Medical Center?

I just received my 4th interview! It's from a program I just knew I was going to get rejected from. I'm really shocked and REALLY happy. 🙂

Finally got a good news
:soexcited:

1 onsite interview
1 phone interview
4 rejections
3 unknown

After 2 rejections, I was actually thinking about applying to more programs. But, now I am just going to go with what I got.

Any body still expecting communication from NC programs? Also, if a program does not contact you by the end the week they said they would, does that mean it s likely to be a rejection?

Which one are you waiting to hear from?

They'll email you a rejection

So far I have 2 rejections and honestly, I think I looked pretty good on paper. I feel like the pharmacy residency programs are flawed.
