Hi! I’ve been a “SDN lurker” for quite sometime, and I would love to hear all of your responses to my situation –
A couple of weeks ago, I went to my pre-med advisor on campus to see what actions I should take on contacting a couple of schools. For UIC, she proceeded to call a guy she knew there because my application was complete last August. She told me the person she talked to “apologized profusely” and said that there must have been a mistake in their system because I was supposed to receive an interview last October. My interview is this Thursday (Feb 2). Now, for any other school, I would interview normally, but for those familiar with UIC, there are three different sites: Chicago, Peoria, Rockford. I really would like to be on the Chicago campus, but with it being so late in the interviewing process, I have a feeling my shot of getting that site preference is pretty low.

Thoughts? Say something at the interview about the mistake? Depend on them to have made a note in my file? Talk about wanting to be on the Chicago campus or just be pleased to be interviewing?

Thanks 🙂

So for UIC, how do they usually go about assigning sites? Say, if you wanted Chicago, but it's filled up, then you just get put in at your second choice site?

If so, I don't see the harm in working it in somehow. I mean how much you want the Chicago site--don't mention their mistake.

your first goal is to get accepted. once you get in it would be appropriate to address the issue at hand. i think it would lack tact to bring it up AT your interview because:
a) your interviewer most likely had nothing to do with the mistake
and
b) you're applying to an institution, not a city

good luck

UIC gives you site preference cards. I don't think Chicago is filled up, so I think you have a shot. But I do think that the adcom puts people into sites based on their own preferences (not the students). This was the case with me. I acutally chose rockford over chicago, but they put me in chicago. But hey, I'm not complaining.
