Hi,

This message is for CURRENT podiatry school students. I wanted to see if any of you were accepted to podiatry school before taking your MCAT. I dont know if the rumors I've heard are true. If not, did any of you do your interview and then take your MCAT a couple months later? Was the seat reserved for you at that school? Thanks

This has been touched on before. Why would you not take the MCAT since it is pretty normal for people to apply in feb-april and still get accepted. So there really is no excuse not to take the mcat before applying.

Also, unless your GPA is crazy good and from a reputable school, what basis does the admin. committee have to judge you against other applicants with no mcat score?

I was thinking of applying now, I have my LOR and shadowing done. I have over a 3.8 GPA and I go to a really good school. The next MCAT date available is Janurary. SO I was just wondering if it was possible that they hold your spot until your scores come in.

You're over-thinking this. There will be spots. Kill the MCAT to increase your chances of some scholarship/tuition-reimbursement and stop worrying. If you aren't familiar with how non-competitive the admissions process is then you didn't bother to read anything in the pre-pod forum.

APPLY NOW. You may get interviews. If they like you after the interview, they will give you a minimum score you must achieve for a guaranteed acceptance.

You will also be on their "radar." Admissions will know you want this career and that your MCAT score (in your mind) will not deviate you from your desire to pursue podiatry.

👍

Seriously, you are way over-thinking it. So unless you want to get into AZPOD or DMU, then you have tons of time. And you may still get into those smaller schools because they have people that withdraw before classes begin. AZPOD was mass emailing their wait-list a week before classes just a few weeks ago.

What happens if you take the mcat and you get a low score, will they ask you to retake it? Or will they deny you?

I was accepted into several of the podiatry schools with scholarship offers well before taking the MCAT. The schools told me to complete the MCAT by the spring to complete the offer. With podiatry becoming more competitive, the schools may ask for a minimum on the MCAT, but I would go ahead and interview and register to take the MCAT accordingly.
