do most pharm schools require interviews?

what type of questions do they ask and how much does it weigh in the admissions factor?

thanks

bump. any advice is really appreciated, thanks.

I'd say about 90% require interviews. There are a few out there that don't. I just don't know which ones.

Interviews can make or break you. Some friends have told me that once you interview, you're just as competitive on paper as the other interviewers. I don't know if I believe that b/c some schools claim that they have specific break downs.

Check out the interview feedback for specific interview questions.
Different schools ask different questions. It depends on the focus of the school.

I would say that most pharmacy schools require interviews for the simple fact that they want to make sure you can communicate effectively. During clinical rotations you will be asked certain things and they will expect a quick and effective response. As for how much they weigh I tend to think it has a lot to do with your GPA and PCAT and other factors. If you're rockin' a 3.8 GPA with a PCAT score in the 90s I don't think the interview will mean as much as for a person with a 3.0 GPA and a 75 PCAT. If some of your stats are less than stellar, the interview could mean a lot to you. This is your chance of telling them face to face why you deserve a spot in their school. If you already have stellar stats, the interview will confirm this to them. As for questions asked, for me they were mostly personal type questions such as Why Pharmacy? Why our school? What if you don't get in? How do you handle stress? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are your hobbies? Etc. Hope this helps.

Don't forget to ask them questions as well. Schools want intuative students who aren't afraid to ask questions and plus it makes you seem interested. Good Luck

"Let's say I have 3 spots left for the class. It's between you and two other people. You have the exact same stats, took the exact same classes, everything on paper is equal. Why do I chose you over the other three?"

Good 'ol Dr Higa....love him to death...but, man, he's a tough cookie in the interview.

Interviews are very important. I had my interview @ Midwestern CPG with 12 other people. We were all seated in a room, and the Dean of Admissions came in and told us that the time to worry about our pre-pharm stats was over. He said, "Your numbers & stats have gotten you to this point. Now it's time for our interview committee to get to know you and make sure you are a good fit for our school."

They will ask questions like

Why pharmacy instead of another medical profession?
Why have you chosen our school?
Where do you think the pharmacy profession is headed in the next ten years?

Just be yourself and be honest. It's not a stressful thing, but as a pharmacist you need to be intelligent, well-spoken, and articulate; not just a science nerd.

Good luck!
