I have an interview coming up and I have a quick question about discussing my volunteer activities when asked about it.

I will talk about my medical volunteering, and I also volunteered at the last two state games for the special olypmics. After that, I don't have much community service. However, I have done quit a bit of philanthropy with Relay for Life. I know this isn't necessarily volunteering, but would you bring it up...?

Just follow the flow of the conversation. They usually won't ask you about breadth with regards to volunteering since they have it all in front of them. They may ask for a particularly touching/powerful experience that arose from one of those activities. Focus on that more so than which ones to mention.

Sure, why not? I'm assuming by philanthropy you mean donating money or other objects of value? Focus on what you DID for the organization rather than what you GAVE them, and it will sound better.

I highly doubt someone will say:
"Hey, you're supposed to be talking about volunteerism, and this topic sounds suspiciously like philanthropy! For shame!"

You didn't get paid. It took time you could have used to work or do other things. You donated/volunteered your time. I would definitely bring it up if for nothing else, just to show continuity in your activities.
