It's nice, but no. Some people on this forum might think you're sucking up. But I say go for it.

I would disagree with anyone who says that sending a thank you card would be sucking up. Rather, I think it shows class on the part of the applicant. Send a short note to the admissions office thanking them for their time, and for the opportunity to interview and see the school. If you came across anyone who was particularly helpful, briefly mention them. What I would not do is send a letter directly to the interviewer and be over the top nice about how much you enjoyed being grilled by this person. That's going too far, in my opinion. I sent a letter to ICO after my interview, and it obviously didn't hurt, because I was accepted! Good luck...

in my opinion, it is appropriate and professional to send a thank you letter AFTER and acceptance (or rejection for that matter), but not BEFORE. although the intent may be genuinely good and thankful, it may come off as being a suck-up or something of a bribe. i don't know, but this is just my opinion - becuase if you are truly grateful for the opportunity and time given to you by the school, this should still be true AFTER a decision has been made. 🙂

I think it's a good idea. If sucking up is your main concern it's not going to be looked at as a bad thing, so what do you have to lose. If you truly appreciate your experience than why not. Remember many people hear complaints very few hear thank you- do it.

Boy... if I was taking bribes to let people into optometry school... I sure would expect a lot more than a thank you card! I'm thinking Mercerdes, cruises, and of course... CASH! I have to disagree with you Ariel... if you are going to send a thank you card, the time to do it is right after the interview. Sending a thank you card after you have been accepted would be fine, if you wanted to thank them for accepting you. Maybe a little desperate, but whatever. But, the original question was whether sending a card to the interviewer is appropriate. I think the answer is yes (again, to the admissions office, not the actual interviewer.) And, I don't know about you, but after I've just been rejected from a school, I'm not in the most thankful of moods!

And, I don't know about you, but after I've just been rejected from a school, I'm not in the most thankful of moods!

Well, let's just agree to disagree. I sent a thank-you card to ICO after my interview, and be it insincere or false, I was accepted. My thank you card was not to the admissions committee to thank them for reviewing my file, nor was it to the interviewer to thank him for giving me the toughest hour of my life. It was to the nice people in the admissions office for helping me relax and enjoy myself, and to the students who gave me the tour. I honestly feel that sending a thank you card after being rejected from a school is dishonest... what are you thankful for???? I know you have already been accepted to NECO, and I assume you didn't send a thank you card after the interview. I've been accepted to ICO and I did. The original poster can read our remarks and make his/her decision accordingly. 🙂
