Why pick that program?
How many programs have you interviewed at, where?
What are you looking for?
What questions do you have about the program?
What are your strengths & weaknesses?

There may be specific questions & comments about strengths & weaknesses on your CV & transcripts.

You may get a pressure interview.

Hi,
For those who've started interviewing in psych, what types of questions are being asked?

Thanks.

Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years?
What are you looking for in a program? (to which I reply, what are you looking for in an applicant? 😉)
What questions do you have for me? (hate that one)
Why this state/city/program?
How long have you been interested in psychiatry/how did you kow you wanted to go into pychiatry?
How did you like your medical school?
What subspecialty are you interested in and why?
The ones who bothered to read your PS usually ask questions about that.
I don't know how it comes up, but I always feel like I end up telling my life story............🙄

is it alright for programs to ask how many other interveiws/where they are? do you have to answer?? why do they ask?

I think they're trying to get a gauge on where the applicant wants to practice. Several applicants go to a program because its the place they want to settle down.

Some of it is because they might be able to see other patterns. E.g. if an applicant asked for programs in big cities--it may point out that person wants to live in a big city. Some patterns I noticed--will the program get them into a fellowship-does it have an attached fellowship?, good psychotherapy?, research?

Some also don't like to see an applicant they want apply to too many other programs. It makes it harder for the program to lock onto a candidate they want. When I did my fellowship interviews, several of the interviewers asked the question, and with each additional place I gave them, I could see their smile noticeably lessen.

thanks whopper! you always have very good inputs! 🙂
