Are most of you guys wearing collared shirts, camisole, or turtleneck underneath suit jackets? I was going to go with the first, but the store clerk told me everyone was wearing camisoles nowadays..

the sales clerk is right. collared shirts can be too bulky under a nice jacket. camisole or some kind of more form fitting tops are great, though it may limit your ability to take off your jacket. like, if it's too bare in the arms.
Wait, lemon tree, are you a girl? Didn't you have a link to a guy's MDApps page before? Ah! The confusion! The lies! WHO ARE YOU?!?!
i am a girl. no lying. no mdapps links (too paranoid). 2-7 am crew just ASSUMES i'm a guy because my posts are, how shall we say, less than feminine.
you, too dudette!!! we are the only players on that thread who are not immature guys. we are immature girls!!!
GIRL POWER!!!
There was a discussion on this a few months ago, and if I recall LizzieM (the ADCOM SDN member) actually suggested uncolored shirts for bigger busted women with a pearl neckline. If your a big busted women--like me--buttoned shirts have a tendency to pop open which is something I don't want to have happen on the interview trail. No ADCOM is not going to admit you because you're not wearing a collared shirt. I think on SDN we get obsessed about the little things. Focus on the interviewing skills, worry less about the shirt.

I think the previous poster meant uncollared (as in not a button down collared blouse) not uncolored.
Personally I think a V-neck is a little risque, especially with a bigger bust.
I'm big busted (I seriously HATE that term). My profile looks like a capital "P" - how's that?
Anyway, what is a pearl neckline? And uncolored? Like black or white? I was thinking about wearing a form-fitting long- or 3/4-length-sleeved top under my suit. With a larger chest, the buttons on collared shirts pop open on me and I think that under a jacket it would look too bulky if I got a size that did fit my chest.
Like these, maybe.![]()

I am wearing a camisole.. it looks better on ME because my chest doesn't fit into the collared blouse right so I have to go up a size, and then it bunches and looks wrong under the jacket.. i tried a turtle neck too, it is bad looking IMO.
I usually have the same problem with collared shirts but Express has a line of shirts that are very comfortable and have extra room in the chest. I have been wearing those and they are fantastic!

This is a pearl neckline...I guess it's technically called a jewel neckline...Think about the length a short string of pearls goes around your neck...just barely revealing your collar bone. I think V-necklines can be risky (i.e. think about the hub, hub that's been generated recently over Hillary Clinton's necklines)

yep, a modest scoop for me.
black Theory suit with cream colored scoop neck shell. very simple necklace and stud earrings. great shoes and great bag!!!!
boom.
Nice! Rock it, girl! Stud pearls or diamonds?
diamonds. they were my college graduation present from my parents. and i borrowed my sister's single diamond on a chain that she got for her high school graduation.
too much bling??? (they are very small diamonds!!)
and my mom bought me prada shoes for my interviews.
(sorry, if i sound spoiled. i was so nervous about my interviews i had to feel fabulous about my outfit.)
Dang, I hate being misquoted. I suggested a pullover style top (rather than one with buttons) and a pearl necklace (not a pearl neckline, not even sure what that is).
With whatever top, bend at the waist and get a good friend to tell you if your cleavage is evident. If so, try a different top. Anything cut too low is risky. The only applicant I know that was explicity turned away due to a clothing choice was someone who wore a low cut blouse with too many buttons undone (on purpose).
I've contemplated the same things. I'm not interviewing for another 1+ year, but I want to be prepared (and I'll also be working with physicians with similar fashion expectations in the future) and I too have a similar setup with diamonds, both gifts.
To bling, or not to bling? I was thinking about a safe string of pearls and some pearl studs, just because I love pearls but they usually look so conservative that I won't wear them. Perfect opportunity to look conservative, though. I really doubt they'll notice/care about our earrings. Whatever makes you comfortable! 🙂
And yay on the Pradas. If you feel good, that's all that counts!
for collared shirts, you can always add extra snaps in the bust area to make sure there are no gaps. 🙂 if you are willing to make the effort...
I was worried about accessories too, but I have worn a brightly colored beaded necklace (very artistic, handmade) with a conservative black suit and scoop neck shell at four interviews. I have been asked about the necklace at every interview and gotten complements from interviewers. At one interview, my male interviewer's daughter was a jewelery maker, and at another my interviewer had just come back from abroad and the necklace reminded her of her travels. I would say don't be afraid to show some personality in your accessories. As long as you are tasteful, it is okay to wear something interesting, and it might even spark conversation...
I agree. Pearls are always "safe" but something "interesting" could provide a conversation starter.
LOL, I'm not as old as the fruitcake lady, nor as funny.
Sometimes, an applicant needs to show "well roundedness" and if a necklace jogs the interviewer's memory (maybe about a year abroad or a particular hobby) then a productive conversation can get started. Same can go for a tie or a lapel pin.

I totally have this problem, but I've found New York & Company makes a great stretch blouse. It's just a regular button down, but it (a) is sewn to a curvier form and (b) has a small percentage of spandex in it so that you're not pulling the buttons apart. Suddenly I have way more options!
is anyone creeped out that boys are reading this thread? stalkerish, no?

what is this, the women's bathroom?is anyone creeped out that boys are reading this thread? stalkerish, no?

the shirts are for girls. what if I'm a fashion design major?well, let's see. A women's bathroom has a sign on the door that indicates it is for women. This post has a subject that indicates that the conversation is for girls. So, yeah. Kinda. 😉

Hm. I opened this thread because it keeps showing up in my "New Posts" searches, and because I'm curious about other people's interview experiences/preparations/planning in general. I wouldn't have posted because I really don't have anything to add to the discussion. Doesn't mean I'm trying to snoop on the girls talking about their boobies. Do you think it would be stalkerish for a woman to read a thread about plain vs. striped ties, or do you think they'd just be curious about the conversation?
Regarding your going back and editing your old posts, decaf, I'd always treat posts to an ananymous public forum like they're posts to an anonymous public forum. If I'm not comfortable with the idea of some creepy stranger in his mom's basement reading them, I'll think twice before hitting Submit.
And for the record, it's been a while since I thought of myself as a "boy", or of women applicants as "girls". (Mabye that has something to do with my having a house, a wife, and a couple kids?) Your mileage may vary.
