I have read in a lot of threads now to stay away from black suits? Why stay away from black suits?

I get the solid color suits, simple shirt and simple tie, but why not black suits?!?!?

I've never heard this before...

It is because almost everyone there for the interview will be dressed in a black suit. Seriously, it almost reminded me of a funeral. 😉 Many people like to wear a suit in a color other than black so they "stand out" from everyone else. If you go this route, stick with a conservative dark color. Nothing too weird or crazy. 🙂

I have a brown suit and people are like "OMG I'VE NEVER SEEN A BROWN SUIT BEFORE". Is it really that weird/not acceptable?

Black is not very flattering and it makes you look like you are attending a funeral. A nice navy blue or dark charcoal suit will do you just fine for interviews.

Also maybe I just have awful color recognition, but from more than a couple feet away dark charcoal and black look the same to me

where i'm from black is only for funerals, but that's just me..

Coming from a place where the business kids love to run around in suits, and reinforced by the guy who fitted me for one - "Black is only for weddings and funerals."
