Whats the magic number for a successful ophthalmology match? I was offered three interviews: 1 top program, 1 mediocre, and 1 considered "lower" program (although I am thankful for all of them ). What are my odds for matching?

Sorry to say, but there really is no "magic" number (though many will mention 10 interviews as almost guaranteeing a match). Fact is that a lot depends on your particular situation. Did you only apply to those 3? If so, that's a good percentage! Did you apply to 50? Not such a good percentage. Is one of them your home program? Would they be happy to have you? Would you like to stay there? If so, you could have just applied there and probably been fine. When I applied, I sent to 20, got 15 offers, and went to 10. I matched at my 5th choice, which ended up being my home program. Oh, and I also had an MD/PhD. Take that for what it's worth. Good luck!

Totally agree, I know someone who applied and interviewed at only to 2 programs and matched and those that went on 15 and did not. No magic number, somewhere btw 8-12 is a good number though. Also agree it depends on how many you applied to as far as your chances. If you applied to under 10 programs and got 3 interviews, that isn't that bad and is better in my opinion than someone that applied to all 100+ and got 10 offers.
