I have my 1st interview today and surprise surprise I couldnt fall asleep. I tried, I really did, lol. I even worked out twice as hard as usual thinking it would pass me out.....ok wish me luck I have no brain, lol.

good luck...at this point you can't really do much to make up for your lack of sleep, but i suggest eat a nice breakfast and drink something with caffeine/eat a power bar..or anything else that got you through the day after your all nighters.

i experienced exact same thing
u will be okay for the most of the day because of adrenaline,,,
but by 4:30ish u will be really tired, but then that's when interviews usually end
good luck today=)

Good luck Noeljan! Hopefully you'll have some down time during the day to get refreshed and clear your mind before your interview. Let us know how it goes.

🙂

hey OP! hope you blast them away!! relax, be yourself and try to have fun!:luck:

I still have the same problem.

I agree with this.

I didn't get more than 3-5 hours of sleep for any of my interviews...I think it's the excitement and nerves. However, I got up, had breakfast, coffee, and I was good for the interview day, but by 3-4pm I was definitely exhausted and crankier (thank goodness that's around the time all interview days end).

There was this one interview where, when it was time to go home, the stupid taxi driver kept passing me by, even though I was standing on the sidewalk signaling to him. He did it at least 4 times...I kept calling the taxi company office and they said he's going to drive by again, bla bla bla. I wanted to cry so badly because I was soooooo tired 🙁 .
(I actually got accepted to this school by the way).
Now, looking back, I can't believe I was almost crying because of the stupid taxi...I guess interviews do have an emotional effect on you.

Don't think too hard about it and definitely don't worry about the lack of sleep. It already happened, nothing you can do about it, so no use worrying. Have a mind as clear of worries as you possibly can!

thanks guys/girls for all your kind words🙂
You are not going to believe this, but I GOT ACCEPTED🙂 🙂 I am sooooo happy.

They called me🙂 I can't believe it. I missed the call at first bc I was in the lab running a gel and had my phone on silent. The number looked like a UB number (I go to school here) so I called it back. Well when I called the person I was to speak with had just went on lunch, lol just my luck. My postdoc in the lab was like TURN YOUR RINGER ON!!! LOL.
So I did and had my phone at my side at all times and low and behold I got the call about 45 minutes later. I am sooooo happy. I love the school and the people and I am from here. You could tell they really care about their students.
BTW the school has been noted for their fast turnaround on SDN. A lot of people have posted 1-3 days post interview, while others a few weeks. I felt sooo good after both interviews, I couldnt believe how nice they were. I didnt want to get my hopes up though, but I guess my instinct was right.
See I always do better on no sleep, lol.
This is the best day ever! I cant remove the smile from my face.😍

I interviewed yesterday 1/10🙂 and was accepted today🙂 1/11

nice.

depakote were you there as well yesterday?

Hey Depakote🙂
Everyone was sooo nice. I had a lot of fun yesterday.

freetheyaz...who were you? Was I talking to you? I was the girl with the grey suit. My hair was down, except a small part up in the front. I kept offering everyone snacks I brought, lol.

are you guys talking about SUNY Buffalo? If so, I just wonder how the interviews went and what so great about the school that you guys found out? I have an interview there at the end of the month and still debating if I should go. What is their policy on OOS applicants? I am from CA btw. Thanks guys

I would go.

I think they give preference to in-state applicants (but if you've been invited for an interview, you probably made it past that part... just a guess). Also, something not everyone knows about the SUNY schools, after the first year as an out-of-state student, you can establish residency and pay in-state tuition.

Overall, it's a great school. They have good research and they really seem to support their students.

Hey there,
I'm an NY state resident so I don't know as much about OOS policies for UB (aka SUNY Buffalo). But I can tell you what I liked about the school and interviews. Everyone was sooooo nice I couldn't believe it, even the other interviewees (is that a word lol). All of the faculty and admissions people were super nice and helpful. The med students answered a ton of my questions. You could tell the staff really does whatever they can to help better the career of their students.
I liked the anatomy lab and patient stimulator thing. I felt his pulse, it was really cool. The student lounger was nice as well.
Anyways if I can think of anything else I will let you know. Oh I am from Buffalo so I know a good deal about the area.

Congrats Noeljan! I was there yesterday as well. Buffalo is a terrific school. I hope I get in too!!!!!

Hey there
I can tell you Buffalo is very affordable to live in compared to many other places. As for things to do, I like the gym or Elmwood area is pretty nice with shops and places to eat, etc.

Congratulations Noeljan! That's the fastest "this suck" to success story ever 🙂. I remember that Kaplan says that it doesn't really matter how well you sleep the night before as long as you get quality sleep two nights before. That may be a bunch of crock, but I do find that I'm usually fine the day after no-sleep (maybe a bit tired, irritable) but I'm always wasted the day after. I

I've found that a couple mg of melatonin works wonders for those nights when otherwise you'd never be able to get to sleep. (don't take too much tho or you could seriously oversleep, take about an eight of a 20mg tab, it's a powerful hormone.)

thank you very much for all the info Noel.

Are the interviews at UB really that great? I have mine faaast approaching (on Wednesday) and from what I have read on the feedbacks, they ask some funky questions ("design a study to determine how many MDs have quit smoking in the last 10 years" or "how many gas stations are there in the US" to name a few"). In any case, I'm really excited as this will be my first interview and was just a little thrown by those questions. Was wondering if you guys were asked those questions too (as it seems many of the feedbacks talk about them)...

P.S. I've also heard that UB is very, very quick with responses - a day to two to a week - and I'm psyched that this story further backs that up.

I have my 1st interview today and surprise surprise I couldnt fall asleep. I tried, I really did, lol. I even worked out twice as hard as usual thinking it would pass me out.....ok wish me luck I have no brain, lol.

I tried using sleeping aids to help me sleep. I end up sleeping for 2 hours and waking up in the middle of the night before going back to sleep again. I just woke up cranky and feeling like my brain became sludge.

Good Luck with Buffalo. If it's your first choice, CONGRATS, it's over!. If it's not your first choice, congrats on your first acceptance and I hope there is more to come. There's this great chinese resturant in Buffalo somewhere. I don't remember the name or the street it's on but it's next to a Bally's. umm. there!

that's exactly what I need. ASIAN FOODS ROCK!!!!!

Checked my Staus Page this morning... Wait List

Hope it moves as fast as they said it does. :luck:

Hey Depakote
congrats!!! UB really does move fast, that is much appreciated in this process🙂 From what I gather from friends who comforted me in case I was waitlisted, they told me not to worry and that it moves sooo much. They said you can find out where you stand on it to. Be sure to send updates with any positive activites and show interest in the school if that is where you want to be. I will keep my fingers crossed for you🙂 🙂 Hopefully we will be classmates in fall 07. Let me know keep me posted.:luck:

I know exactly what you mean about the sleep aids. Tylenol simply sleep does nothing but make my brain sludge and not put me to sleep!!! I usually would be better off and more clear in mind without taking it. It's funny bc whenever I was nervous about not sleeping friends would say, oh take simply sleep or something, Im like NOOOOOOOOO. That does NOTHING for my sleep and makes it worse, lol.

Thanks for the congrats. Buffalo is my first choice. I was born and raised here, lol. My decision is even stronger after meeting everyone and hearing what they had to say about the school, etc.

Just to trend back on to the original topic of the thread...

I've found I can only sleep if I think about anything but whatever is coming up. I just try to concentrate on something else completly unrelated and that usually does the trick. If you let yourself think about how much sleep you're getting or the interview coming up, work, medicine or anything like that, you're just going to fixate and your mind will never shut down.

UB has a 1 day turnaround time from interview?

And to sleep before a big day, always eat Chinese takeout. The MSG will floor you.

hey neoljan,

congratulations on the acceptance! I was just wondering when you were complete at ub? i'm also instate and wanted to compare. Thanks!

thanks for all the congrats everyone. I am so happy.
As for being complete, I was complete on Halloween and got an invite I believe around December 6th.
good luck. Though the timing can be different for everyone.:luck:

Yup. I remember trying to schedule an interview for Tuesdays and Mr. Rosso said that the committee only meets on Wednesdays and so they only interview on Wednesdays. I guess thats how decisions are so rapid. Sort of wish every school was like that 😳 .
