I was wondering if you guys can answer this question. My friend who has ~4.0 GPA from an Ivy thinks that he can get an interview without MCAT score. I told him that he should take MCAT in April and apply in June to increase his chances. But he seems to think that he will be granted interviews before the August MCAT score gets sent to school, which will be around sometime in October. He is trying to delay taking MCAT, b/c he is not good at those standarized tests. Anyways, I thought some of you might know... :)

NO, NO, NO!!! Where did he get such an idea? Am I wrong? Are there exceptions?

That's what I told him, too. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Well, I don't know how common it is, but I got an interview at UT Houston before my Aug scores came in. I verified with them at that time that they HAD NOT yet received the scores.

Schools can do whatever they want. If there is something considerably more special about this guy than his 4.0, they might interview before they got an MCAT score, especially this year.

why delay the inevitable? he may get a few interviews before the schools receive the MCATs, but in the end, the schools will use his MCAT just like any other student. i actually think he'd be at a disadvantage taking it in august.

I think he is aiming to get interviews from top 25 schools. I know medical schools can do whatever they want, but w/o MCAT score?, from top 25??? He wants to be a doctor because of $$$ and status. It just frustrates me to see someone like him getting into top schools, even getting interviews from top schools just because of his excellent GPA. (I guess we will see when he applies next year.) Everything he does; his major and EC's are played out so nicely to kiss AS@!!! I think he is taking away valuable spcaces for many people on this website who are genuinely interested in helping people and learning. I just hope that admissions people are smarter in picking out people like him. Sorry to vent my angers, but people like him brings me down and makes me feel like shi$! I am also sick of getting grouped with people like that. Sorry again guys for such mean statements. I am a pretty nice person, not usually like this :)

what?!! you can get an interview without a complete application file?  cool. i'm going to stop working on my secondaries. :D :D if med school really want me, they'll let me know. :D :D :D

I think med schools might've been doing that this year cause of AMCAS...I don't know how it's been in past years (this is my first time applying), but I think they were just trying to get everything underway.
Also, he may be able to get interviews at a few schools, but they sure as hell won't accept him w/o the mcat score...

Hey Smudge,

I know how you feel about arrogant people who get in for the wrong reasons, it just makes you sick. I think everybody knows somebody like that; smart, able to fake compassion for a day or two, and just an all around jerk.

But my SO has a pretty great story about a guy in his med school class who sounds a lot like the guy you're describing. Basically in it for money, etc. He'd do really crappy things, like mooch off other students working hard, and just generally be an all around cocky a$$. Anyway, point is, when it match time came around, this guy didn't match anywhere. And even more damagingly, he'd alienated about 150 future colleagues, who he'll never, ever get referrals or positive word of mouth from.

I guess my point is, that even if this guy slips through the cracks with the admissions people, (and I bet we'll all meet people like this in med school) eventually, what goes around comes around.
