I'm still pretty naive about this whole app process, so this may be a silly question.

I saw a previous thread that said "if you get into your #1 school, are you going to stick with that, or choose the top few, or still go to all" regarding interviews.

Isn't an interview not a definite acceptance? Or rather, a better question is: what % of applicants that get an interview get an acceptance? I was under the impression that quite a few ppl get cut at the interview, but that thread made it sound like you are in if you get an interview.

You most likely misread that thread.

It was probably asking "If you get an acceptance do you still spend money to go on more interviews if you know for sure thats where you want to go."

It changes with each school!

Some are picky...i think vanderbilt is notorious for a pretty good at screening out poeple they don't want before they interview.

Some state schools interview everyone.

On average ide say the "accepted SDN answer" is somewhere about 1/3 of the poeple offered interviews are offered acceptences. Although others will argue.

i'm a little drunk, so i will try my best to explain...
Some schools start sending acceptances as early as Oct 15th, which means you may already have an acceptance from a school before you get an interview invite at another school. The question the thread asked was if you are accepted at your top choice school, and THEN get more interview invites, would you go to the later interviews or not? While you're already in your top choice school, you may get more money or something from another school, or just like it better once you see it.
Every school has a different percentage of acceptances of number of people interviewed. The US News and world report book has a pretty exact breakdown for each school that reports it. Most schools are anywhere from 1 out of every 2 interviewees to 1 out of every 5. For state schools, they may accept a higher percentage of in state interviewees than out of state as well.

ahhhhh got it. i also see the post lower down that addresses this.

thanks!

Look at MSAR.

Lower Tier School:
Take # matriculated and multiply by two, call 'x'
Take # interviewed and call 'y'
x/y*100 = approx percentage of interviewees receiving acceptance offers

Upper Tier School:
Same thing, but multiply # matriculated by 1.3-1.5.

Remember to use in-state or out-of-state statistics, as they might apply to you.

This is a general guideline, and should not be used for investment purposes.
