Do interviewers know if you are going to be accepted or not?
My interviewer told someone at the end of interview that he will be seeing her in August and that he will see her during a rotation in his field.
This school is not rolling admission ( at least I don't think so)
Does anyone know how much power the interviewer has?

Totally depends on the school. Some interviewers sit on the admissions committee, others are school staff/faculty that make suggestions to the committee without having a vote. I have heard of a number of instances where an individual was informed of acceptance at the end of an interview (it happened to a friend), so I know it does happen.

it happened to me and turned out to be true...

If they're really on the adcom, they might be telling you the truth. I don't know who is actually on the adcom, so I can't be of help there. If they're not on the adcom, they're just one of those people who tells you that because if you get rejected, well it doesn't matter, but if you get accepted you'll have been ready to come.

It's all a mind game isn't it? Seriously, I wouldn't take it as a guaranteed acceptance, just a good sign. 90% of the people we interview get top scores on their interview evals, so it's hard to tell if this person really has alot of pull or they're just full of BS. We'll see in April eh 🙂

Numbers, ECs, and special fit for academic medicine (especially if that can be advanced by things at Penn).
hey man, how are things? do me a favor--march in to the admissions office and demand that they interview superdevil from SDN right away!

when the boss talks, people listen 😉

Haha, yeah right. I applied for and was not selected for the student adcom. Not to fire up the AA debate or anything, but I wasn't told until after I applied that they were using ethnicity to select who would be the student adcoms. Besides, part of being at a "top-tier" school means that all your classmates seem to want to be involved with everything. 29 people applied for 2 spots. I've tried to assume leadership of several clubs while falling flat on face when the leadership baton was passed to the best friends of the old leader. Meanwhile, my fiancee attends Temple and runs about 4 different clubs because nobody steps up to the plate to run anything.

Is it better to attend a top-tier school? Make your own judgement.

Is it true that the ad committee members meet 8-10 times from October to March to decide on who gets admitted? ( admission in small batches that are then set aside until March ?)
Or is it just one date in March where everyone is reviewed again?

I honestly don't know how the adcom works regarding admissions. My impression was that they didn't make any decisions until the end, but that would be really hard to do in one sitting.

Some schools deliberately make sure that the interviewers don't know you. They haven't seen your file, all they know is your name, undergrad, hometown, and major at University of Iowa anyway...I guess to be unbiased during the interview?

Not sure if any other schools do that...Iowa is the only interview I have so far.

Anyway, if they don't know who you are they probably don't know whether or not you'll be accepted. Don't know anything about other schools yet though.

At Penn they get your file, though only adcoms (unless they screw up) get to see your GPA, MCAT score, and LORs. Interviewers get to see your AMCAS application sections on where you went to school, extracirriculars, and personal statement. There's no secondary essays here, so we don't have to worry about that one.

If you find you know an applicant beforehand or you just happen to be hosting, you're supposed to notify the office and get a new person to interview. This has happened to me, and it was no big deal to switch.

Neuronix,
I was interviewed at UPenn on 10/8 and I must say that I was greatly impressed by everything there. The orientation was so carefully planned and both the student and faculty interviewers were wonderful persons. The class seemed to be diverse and people looked content. After that day UPenn became my top choice, if I do get in. Is UPenn a rolling school? If so, any advantage in being interviewed early?

Thanks
