Hello! So I've interviewed for a school early on in the cycle. Up until now, I haven't heard any news from the school yet, which is quite discomforting 🙁. I asked them about my admissions status on December 1st, but they said to check back at a later date. When I asked them again mid-January, the school said to check back later since the adcom is still deciding. I was wondering if this is a regular occurrence for dental schools, or has anyone had a similar experience? Would their upcoming decision be a rejection or acceptance, or could being waitlisted this late in the cycle also be a possibility?

Thank you,

Anxious Smiles

You could be accepted, rejected, or still put on a waitlist. Anything is possible. An official waitlist notice is unlikely though, since it seems like you're already sort of on one.

It's definitely a regular occurrence with schools, as some people don't even hear back until summer. There is definitely still time to get accepted though. At this point there's no point in worrying about it, which is easier said than done. Just try your best to stay positive. You could try to write a letter of intent as well, but it's often debated on SDN whether or not those are even useful.

Instead of e-mailing them about your admissions status, email them with updates about what you are doing (in terms of school, employment, volunteering, shadowing, etc.) and that you are still very interested in attending the school and would be ever-so grateful if you were accepted there. This is essentially an interest letter. It's much better than e-mailing and saying: "ayy, wat my status iz tho"
Of course I wouldn't send one more than once a month.

It took a school a month to send me my acceptance! I even made a thread like yours cause I was getting frustrated haha. Don't assume anything bad till it's official. You literally don't know what's going on behind the scenes. AND yes! When I emailed them, I did exactly what @Typical Average Student said to do. It works!
