Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if you have interviewed at UPitt did you stay with a student host or in a hotel, with whom or where, the cost, and did you travel to and from the airport? Also, how was your experience (and yes I have read the interview feedback already)? Any other additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Goal-Getter

P.S. I am asking all of these questions because I have never travelled to Pittsburgh. Not to mention I am looking forward to this interview.

BUMP

By the way when does UPitt send the email detailing the interview day such as when, where, and so on? I only knew about the interview invite bc I checked the status page and then called to verify it, forgetting to even ask about the email.

Thanks,

I stayed at the Best Western University Center (Pitt had a link to it) and it cost $73. I was happy with it. Several of the hotels offer a shuttle to the hospital and I'd recommend making sure the one you choose does. (I had my car, so I didn't pay attention.)

When I originally scheduled my interview, I didn't get an emailed confirmation. However, I ended up having to reschedule (I was out of the country) and I got a confirmation then. So I don't think they generally send them.

My experience was good. Due to my own stupidity and crappy Mapquest directions, I was late, which stressed me out, but I had a good time anyway. Lots of walking. Both of my interviews were an hour long, and I only had about 5 minutes between, which was a little rough since I was already stressed. I liked the school a lot - their training facilities were very cool. Bring some cash, because they give you a $5 voucher for lunch and it's easy to spend more than that.

You're flying, so this doesn't apply to you, but for anyone who is driving, GET A MAP. I got lost/misdirected twice, despite having been to Pittsburgh several times before. They have pretty crazy highways, and thanks to the hilliness, not all the roads connect where you might think they would.

I went on hotwire.com and got tickets to the Wyndam Garden (sp?) Hotel University Center for 50.00/night. This is a really nice hotel and it's about a three block walk (albeit uphill the whole way) to Scaife Hall where you meet in the morning.

The bus system is pretty good, if you get a map, and I think there is a shuttle to the airport from the school that costs around 3.00...but I'm not sure because I ended up driving to save some $$$. The whole trip including the hotel, parking for two nights, driving, and food costed my bf and I less than 300.00.

hotwire.com is definitely the way to go!!!! just make sure you put University Center in the search parameters and you can't go wrong.

Good luck! PittMed is an awesome school!!!

Just wondering what date is your interview? I was just trying to get an idea what type of days that pitt did their interviews on.

Pitt is amazing! With Carnegie Mellon and Pitt undergraduate and graduate campuses all in one area it is a very vibrant student scene. And the medical complex is huge.

Don't bother with a cab. The bus is only 3.25, I think, and is just as fast. It picks you up at the airport and will drop you right on campus. It takes about 30min. All the Pitt and CMU students take it so it shouldn't be hard to find. Awesome school, have fun!
BTW, this is a normal city bus, sorry can't remember the bus #.

Thanks a bunch. Dang, so does that mean pitt does that many interviews or are those just the days that they are only willing to do it?

Anyone konw what airlines have the cheapest fares to pittsburgh from the NYC metro area?

I should know since I did undergrad at CMU.. but I always drove, but there is little chance I'm going to drive the 15 hr round trip for an interview..

I know that USAIR has a hub there, but the tickets are in the 250-300 range..
what other airlines should I check?

thnx

I took the airport shuttle. It costs around $3.00 and takes around 40 minutes to get to the school. When you take the shuttle back to the airport, it is a little less clear where the stops are in front of the hospital, so make sure that you take on of the route maps from the bus stop sign at the airport when you get there! Thank goodness I did that. The cheapest regional airline I found was indepedence air (www.flyi.com). I stayed with a student host, which was ok, but definitely not as comfortable or private as a hotel. We had nothing in common, but they had a spare room which was fine. 🙂 Treg

does upitt interview alot of applicants? in other words what are ones chances of acceptance after interview

28X is the bus number. US Airways is cheap. I flew out with Delta and got a decent price.

I found independence air to be the cheapest from nyc to pitt....($79 each way, midweek).

Pitt interviews approximately 900 students, and about 140 actually enroll (so, I assume that about 200-250 students are accepted).

So, out of 5000 AMCAS applications, about 20% are interviewed, and of those interviewed, about a quarter are accepted.

thanks cat's meow, I was wondering the same thing. Odds of getting an acceptance upon being offered an interview at Pitt are better than I thought! By the way, where did you find out that they interview approx. 900 students? I couldn't find it posted anywhere.

No problem. I got the information from the 2005-06 MSAR book (bottom of pg. 305).

If you get an interview at Pitt, then you're a pretty good applicant.

Hi guys!

I'm interviewing at UPitt on tuesday Feb 1st, anybody else on that date?

If anyone is interviewing on a monday in mid-late february, let me know if you want to split a room at the Wyndham Garden Hotel.

The total for the room is $66, so your share would be 33$.

PM me with the date you are interested in specifically.

Why don't you just stay with a student host? It :

1) is Free
2) allows you to get a better feel for pitt students, like myself

Best of luck on your interviews!
