HI...I have a questions.

it is about grade of this semester (fall 2014)
I applied this summer and got few interviews from schools.
but you know....schools don't care about our school schedule.

I am happy that I am getting all these interviews but every time i leave for the interview, I am missing at least 2-3 days of school...some of my prof didn't let me take my exam early or late even though i show her i had interview with dental school.

I am barely holding in that class because she has this policy that optional final exam can substitute the lowest exam grade.
but it is not just this class....constant traveling and constantly missing classes - I am NOT doing well at all.
I am doubtful if i will get C in genetics.....or even pass this thing.

Do you think when i told dental school that my grades are not so good because of all the inteviews and travels i had to do, they will believe it??

I am in Virginia, but even trip to Maryland or North Carolina takes at least 3 days. one up in boston...ugh....
even i am back from interview, it is hard to focus on school right away...

it is such a problem for me now..or am I the only one with this problem??
helpppp

I completely understand. I have been lucky to have flexible teachers though and I'm not taking any prereqs this semester phew! I unfortunately don't think the Dental schools will really care how many interviews you had. All about time management I guess.

Hey missdiana, I completely understand your pain. I am constantly adjusting to time, trying to catch up the material and also I have been doing worse on tests due to the accumulated tiredness. You should make a friend in the class, ask for lecture notes/recordings and have a study session with him/her. Mind asking you how come you could be absent up to three days? For me: one day to go to the hotel near the school the night before the interview and the second day to interview and fly back to home.

Like LaughingGas, I try to fly to my destination the evening before the interview date (if location is closeby) or max, I fly up the morning before (get there around evening), spend the night at a hotel, go to interview the next day and fly back same day.
You should be only missing maximum of 2 school days. 3 is just poor planning imo.

I have to agree with Jaesango - missing three whole days of school is simply poor planning. Most of the areas you're visiting have major airports nearby. You'll just have to fork out the additional cash to catch those flights that help you miss the least amount of school that you can. I was lucky to have professors who were understanding of my schedule. All homework due those days were turned in the class period before and, on the one day that I did have an exam, I was allowed to take it earlier that day to accommodate my interview.

Talk to your professors in person if at all possible and explain to them just how important it is for you to be able to make an interview. Dental school is hard enough to get into even if you do go to all of your interviews. I'd also recommend talking to your academic advisor and your college's dean. Maybe you can get some leverage that way.

As for your grades, it will look bad to dental schools. They want to see that you can balance your academics with other things. Dental school is really hard - if you can't balance interviews and undergraduate, how will you hold up when you're a dental student? Start adjusting your study habits. Review before each lecture and then review after as well. It'll take less time for you to study before an exam that way. Do homework as it comes, rather than right before it's due. If you're really struggling, get a tutor. It sounds basic, but it'll really be worth the additional little bit of effort in the end. c:

I second what everyone else is saying about missing 3 days (or more, since you say at least 3 days!) of school. It is poor planning and really shouldn't be happening.

For me, traveling entirely across the country to California from NC would have only required me to miss 2 days of school. Sure, it involved a red-eye flight, but you do what you have to. I don't want to miss my classes, particularly biochem.
For ECU, I missed just one day. I left after my classes on Monday, arrived Monday evening (4.5 hour drive), and came back Tuesday evening.
For Case, I flew out after my morning classes (so I still got to go to biochem) and came back the next day in the evening.

Basically, it might be cramming a lot of stuff in at once, but missing classes is something that I do NOT want to do.

You need to pull Cs in your classes. Do everything you can to make that happen. Not doing so could potentially lead to bad repercussions.

About that one exam you professor wouldn't let you make up, though... Did you go to the dean and discuss that? That shouldn't be happening, either. I would have been furious and done everything within my power to fix that situation.

I feel your pain. Interviewing along with performing satisfactorily during a senior college semester is no easy feat. We all have to make it work, though. For this last month, just buckle up and get down to business! You can do this. 🙂

Not only is the missing out and being too tired to study after an interview a bad thing, but also to top it off is the horrible disease known as senioritis. This waiting doesn't make it any better.

I don't think you need to miss 3 days and even 4 for Boston. I'm from Canada and I fly in and out to my interviews 2 days max. You just need to get the weirdest flight times possible to not miss much class.
