Interviewing in early Nov...

Good or bad....I just accepted the 1st interview slot on Nov 7th....is it good or bad to interview this early?? My logic is that if they like me then I will be given one of the spots...as long as they don't bump me for people interviewing later lol. Thoughts????

Well, residencies don't "give" you spots. They rank you, and the match algorithm is used (with your rank list).
The idea is to interview late so you'll be fresh in their minds when they make their rank list.

Umm don't exactly buy that logic.....if you interview early and they like you who's to say that they won't make a note saying to rank you in the top of their list....makes little sense to me for people interviewing early to get screwed.

Yeah, don't buy the logic either.

Talked with a PD in EM the other day. Told me that consistently (the last few years) most of the people at their programs interviewed early (november, december). so definately don't worry about it.

most programs are so sick of interviewing people by the end that I think it is better to go early. Everyone is fresh.

The only drawback to interviewing early is that you will not have much practice under your belt. If this is a program you would really like to go to, be sure to do a practice interview with a faculty advisor/mentor before going. It will help you a lot.
