Hey guys,
I had another question about LECOM bradenton. Does anybody know how full their class is? Does interviewing in january equate interviewing for a waitlist position? Or do classes not fill up untill feb, or march??

Thanks so much guys!

OK, I just interviewed at LECOM Bradenton today, and would like to share some good news - they are not full at all. They are new school, so they are big on outreach (especially to the potential students). Also, they accept about 2/3 of the people who interview with them (per one of the school officials that spoke with us today). Interviews are low key, relaxed and zero stress.

Your interview in January means you are in the pool of applicants with good shot at the acceptance - the commitee meets about 1-2 weeks after the interviews, and they decide THEN who is accepted, waitlisted or rejected. There are plenty of spots, trust me.

So, don't sweat it, be genuine ( they are shrewd guys, and can spot when people are full of BS), and it will be all right.

Good luck to you.

At what point do classes start to fill up. Moreover, at what point do the majority of interviewees get waitlisted/rejected rather than accepted? Has this already happened for some schools, did LECOM FL start interviewing later than others??? Thanks so much guys!

I'm sure it depends on the school, how many people they interview, etc. at touro, we were told the changeover from "the adcom can accept all interviewees" to "you can accept this many and waitlist the rest" happens a little after winter break. who knows what it is at other schools. regardless, it's not like you're interviewing in march! good luck! lecom-fl seems like pretty awesome school. if it was in CA, I'd be there.

i just interviewed there on the 20th. i dont think getting an interview for jan means your application will be delayed..however as with all medical schools..everything is on rolling admission..so see if you can push the date up towards early jan or end of dec. and make up an excuse that you are unable to come on that date..something like that. best of luck!

Hey thanks for all the help. I am excited to interview there and I have heard good things about the school. Sombody said that the invite about 2/3rds of those interviewing, is this true? Is the interview open or closed file? And also, does anybody know how residency placement is for LECOM-fl?

Thanks!!!

Officially, I believe it's open file. However, I think all they did was look at my transcripts. I don't believe they even read my personal statement. It was hard to gauge how I did because my interviewer yapped on and on the whole time, but I was accepted. No word on residency placement for a couple of years, when the first class graduates.

Hey Bosnia,
I sat next to you at the Bradenton interview (to your right to be exact). Just wondering if you heard back from them and if you are going to more interviews? I was accepted to Bradenton, but I was also accepted to KCOM so I have to decide soon which one I will attend. If anyone else on here has any insight (or if you attend either of these schools ) please respond back. It was hard to fully assess Bradenton because the classes weren't in session, and I couldn't observe the feel of the student atmosphere. But anyways, just wanted to say hi and good luck to you! :)

I am interviewing there on Jan 13 and assuming the positive.....how long would I have to submit a deposit? I am a little worried about it since I am just getting by. Even to get to the interview has strained the wallet. My tax return should cover the deposit but just wondering how lng one has to save a seat. Thanks for any info.

You have one month from the date of the acceptance letter to send in your deposit. According to my acceptance, the current deposit is $1500. Good luck with you interview and I hope this helps!

What did you think of the school, and facilities? Did you feel that they will accept the majority of those interviewed, or do they reject a fair amount post interview as well?
Thanks so much!! and congrats

The facilities are brand new- they have all state of the art equipment and technology present in each room. That being said, with newness comes the sense of emptiness; construction was just completely finished, so they are still moving in and getting fully settled. The area is also very nice, Lakewood Ranch is a planned community where there is a hospital, schools, shopping and living areas all in a local range. Not sure if you know that LECOM-bradenton has tight security and a dress code (males in khakis/slacks and collared shirts, females skirts/dress pants and blouses) and is completely PBL curriculum. But overall I felt it was a nice school... im still deciding between there and KCOM. They told us in our interview that about 2/3 of the group would be accepted, and most of the others waitlisted and that they had not rejected that many of those who were interviewed. And of the waitlisted, many are accepted because their applications are considered 4 weeks after being waitlisted. Hope this helps you!

i heard lecom bradenton only had one cadavier which is already cut, for its class? is that true? bc one does not seem enough...

no stress interview, the docs were real nice. open file. 1 month to turn in deposit. they make a decision very very fast which is great!

LECOM anatomy is all prosection, so, yes, it's "already cut". They do have more than one though.

So , who else interviewed with me on Dec 21, and have heard from LECOM Bradenton?

Anyone except for Bellagrace?

I am considering calling overthere, but do not have guts to do it, if the answer is no!!!!!!

Anyway, should they not send out at the same time all of their decisions?

Thanks.

OK,

I just called them and heard - I am on the alternate list. Has anyone been placed on one at LECOM and how does it work? How soon do they make decision about us? What can I do to increase my chances of acceptance?

Thanks.

Hey bosnia,
I am sure it will all work out for you, do you mind me asking what your stats are? and also what you thought about the interview?

thanks so much

Sure, here goes:

MCAT 23
GPA science: 3.7
overall GPA: 3.6
graduate GPA: 4.00 (clinical social work)

I have been in practice as hospital based, oncology clinical social worker for 7 years, have tons of medical experience overseas (Peace Corps in Israel, Bosnia and Guatemala), post traumatic stress specialist certified, etc.

I think I have 2 obstacles ( not that I want to call my kids obstacles) : the fact that I have 2 small kids, and the fact that I have transitioned (albeit successfully) from liberal sciences to the basic sciences environment. I think this is what is basis for the AdComs reservations.

What do you propose I do?

Thank You.

Bosnia,
From what i remember from the interview, the people on the alternate list are not ranked and are re-evaluated 4 weeks from the first evaluation. I remember the admissions people saying that a good number of the people put on the waiting list were later accepted after having reviewed their files again. Good luck, and I'm sure things will work out for you!

Thanks, Bellagrace

By the way I remember you very well - I even told you I would love to be in the PBL group with you (if you recall)!

Anyway, do you think (and all of you guys on the forum) that I should send a letter of intent to LECOM Bradenton? If so, to whom? Like, Bellagrace and I interviewed with same people, so do I send it to them each individually, to the dean of the school , or to all three?????
I fell I am articulate and eloquent enough that the sublime message of the letter may ensure them of my honest intent to attend Bradenton.

Please give me some thoughts on this.....

Thanks for the compliment Bosnia, I would love to be in a PBL group with you also if I attend Bradenton. I would at least send a thank you letter to each of your interviewers , if you haven't already, but i can't see how a letter of intent would hurt your odds. It would show the admissions committee of your committment and dedication to Bradenton. I wouldn't sound overly eager though, just remind them of your qualifications and thank them for their thoughtful consideration of your application. Hope this helps!

Hi,

I was interviewed on 1/6. My acceptance letter was dated same day. We were told they typically have 3 to 4 prosected cadavears per 75 students. Did anyone see a histology lab during the interview. I dont remember seeing one.

No histo lab here, just slides on an overhead.

Hey Redman! Congratulations! I also interviewed on 1/6 and was accepted the same day! Will you be attending? I don't think I am going to attend (crossing my fingers for DMU). Good luck! :luck:

You should ask the admissions officer if you are high up on the waitlist or not. I was waitlisted there last year and she was honest with me and told me that my name was pretty far down the list. However, I interviewed very late in March... so your shot maybe much, much better. You are not out of the running yet!

Has anybody heard anything from LECOM-B lately? I interviewed the week of the 23rd and I am so anxious to hear. I really want to call them to see if decisions have been made, but I dont want to be a pain.
Anybody else in the same boat?

I am in the same boat too. I was put on the alternate list, which by the way, is NOT a waitlist. All the alternates are grouped and reviewed together and around may or so they rank them. I sent a LOI the day I got my letter. I just sent it to everyone, Dean George, Colleen Hawk and interviewers. I emailed, faxed and mailed it. I want to be sure they know I want to go there for sure. I am sure there is a lot of movement this time of yr because many people are rounding out their interview process. Dont be afraid to call. Colleen is very patient and helpful. Just get to the point and know what you want to ask. Dont waste their time with unpreparedness. I plan on sending updates frequently until I receive the Golden Ticket. Hopefully it is sooner than some cases I have heard of. Hope things go well for you. Keep us updated.

Is June Flaim still involved in the process??

Yeah she was there. She is still the Director of Student Affairs.

Does anybody know some numbers for LECOM-B. I was curious to know how many applied, were interviewed, and were accepted. I knwo the class is about 150 so I would assume that they accept 200-300 people for the class, knowing that some will go elsewhere. Anyway, it would be interesting to know if anybody had this information.

Thanks guys!

Well,
I just got word from LECOM-FL saying that I was put in an alternate list. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should be doing now? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

For what it's worth, the housing information I have been recieving addressed to Class of 2010 has about 75 names on it. I'm guessing this means that around this many people have sent in their deposit, so the class is ~half full.

My guess is that the class is fuller? more full? than that, because it only listed people who wanted a roommate. Others won't need one and didn't fill out the sheet.

I spoke to a student in my class today who had an interview last week. She told me the admissions staff had said that the class was about half full.

Actually I marked that I did not want roommates, yet I received the email. So I guess it was sent to everyone that sent their deposit. :luck:

Does anyone know when class begins at LECOM-B? I think they said July when I interviewed. I am pumped to get started!

Ha Ha, I guess I'm not the only one. Their website still has info up from last year and I believe the first day of orientation was July 27th . Probably be sometime close to that this coming year. I'm sure we'll be getting some info soon. In the meantime, I'll be watching ebay for good deals on textbooks and dreaming of that beach...

Awesome. Where did you find that? Has anyone who has been accepted heard anything back since they confirmed the deposit?

I interviewed Dec 21st and got accepted on Dec 22 (phone call cause they thought my mailing address was wrong), but I got the acceptance letter like a week later. I turned down my seat in the class not too long ago for LECOM-PA so hopefully that'll open up some seats for you all that are looking to go there :) Good Luck to everyone who's waiting to hear from them!

anyone have an interview on Valentine's Day?

Greetings to all.
I'll be joining the class of 2010 with you.. however I've already been a student there starting 05-06 (health issues)...

I was in the office speaking to Colleen earlier this week and asked her if any good candidates were coming down the pike for next year... she spoke highly of all the people that have interviewed and said that the class was "about half full". So everyone's suspicions are correct.

If anyone has any questions about the curriculum, staff, the LECOM-B experience, textbooks or whatever - please feel free to ask me..

The vast majority of the staff is very helpful and concerned with the student's well-being. Colleen and June - who you all are probably meeting are GREAT. And Dr. Leo - the Dean of student affairs, is one of the coolest profs I've ever met.

I'd be pleased to meet each and every one of you that's coming.. and if you need any info for your interviews - just let me know.. I live in St. Petersburg, not too far from the school and would probably be willing to meet with people prior to the interview and/or school starting.

Good luck to all still interviewing.. I hope to see you next year.

Hey John,

How were Dr. Quinn and Dr. Best? I had June Flaim and Dr. Berezniak. They were pretty laid back.

They were OK, Dr. Quinn did most of the talking and Dr. Best kind of just sat there. It was kind of a cold interview, couldn't tell how it went for sure.
Who are you? So I can put a face to a username.

Hi there, I actually wanted to know what exactly composes the Diagnostic medical equipment. I called the office and they told me that I would buy what I thought I needed, well I'm not really sure what I need. Maybe you can help me out with this. And also, regarding the text books, what do you recommend? Thanks for any help. :luck:
