It is the actual interview invitation.....It says: "The office of student affairs & admission is pleased to extend a personal invitation to you for an official campus admisssion visit.....etc...etc...."

It included an official packet w/ hotel information, driving directions, and the official campus visit schedule.....

The earliest date available is Friday, Sept. 19 !!!! 😱...Also, according to the schedule, they only interview on Wed. & Fridays----all the way to Dec. 12th.....

Since I just got it today, I don't know which day I will go.....I have to work it out w/ my professors so I don't miss quizzes, tests, labs, etc....

Hope this answers your question 😉

Sent my application last night, got an interview from Temple today, only 7 more to go!

Good Luck everyone

alright onto my 3rd interview invite from Ohio....so far

1) Samuel Merritt 2) Barry 3) Ohio six more schools to go!! 👍

hey which schools are sending out interview invites and others snail mail?

so far Ohio is the only snail mail....

My comments were taken the wrong way. The clinic at Scholl is very nice but the day that I interviewed there, I saw 4 students, and not a single patient. The students were sitting around just shooting the breeze. That's why I called it laughable.

What time did they take you over to the clinic at Scholl? If there were only 4 students there and no patients it was probably between 11:30am- 1pm. There are no patients scheduled between those times on purpose. The students you saw either got done seeing patients and were hanging around or were there early waiting for the 1:15pm patients to come in. That's why they were "shooting the breeze". There are never only 4 students there during patient hours. Think about logistics of a practice before bashing it.

Anyone heard from Scholl, Arizona, DMU, and Western U?

Nope, but I visited Western a few days back and they said they wanted to be interviewing by the end of the month...

I just got an interview invitation from DMU!

So I just submitted my application today and sent my transcripts weeks ago. All that is missing are my letters and hopefully that will be done soon. What do you think my chances at getting in somewhere are? I have a 3.3 gpa, and a 3.0 non-science, 21M on MCAT, and tons of extracurriculars. I am soooo nervous! Do you think they'll call soon? I would appreciate ANY feedback!

Yea defintely u should be in good shape!! u have wat theyre asking for .

interviewing at Barry today (they made an exception for me to come in early for personal reasons), interviewing at OCPM later this month, interviewing at Temple in October, interviewing at California soon, and just got an email from Scholl saying that they are reviewing my file now that it is complete

Congrats to everyone! I got an interview for Temple!!!!!! I also got emails from DMU, NYCPM, and Samuel Merritt saying they were reviewing my file, but needed my letters and then they would contact me? Why do you think they are waiting when they have contacted some people who dont have everything in?!

What's your GPA? If someone has great grades, they may allow them to be interviewed before everything is in (along with MCAT score). A number of schools will let people interview without placement test scores, but they usually have a high GPA and great letters/extracurriculars/etc to back them up.

i'm probably thinking that they're giving priority interviews to people with high stats like gpa and mcat scores thinking that they'll get better candidates that way, but little do they know....haha

My overall GPA is 3.3, Science is 3.0 and MCAT is 21M. I got another invite from Samuel Merritt this evening!!! Do you guys think I have at least average scores for Temple and Samuel Merritt? Is Sam Merritt tough since their class size is only 40 something? What about Temple?

Samuel Merritt could begin to get less selective this year since nearby Western will sap a fair amount of their apps and acceptees.

Your stats are roughly average for most pod schools, and I'd imagine that you will at least be granted interviews - esp if you do the smart thing and apply early. Avg stats of accepted apps always varies from year to year at each program due to more/less interest. GL 👍

Got my first interview offer today from OCPM. EXCITED. 😀 .....but not overconfident just yet. :scared: Goodluck to all.

Yes, general (aka "routine") podiatric care like nails, corns, calluses, etc is a big part of practice for many DPMs. But keep a few things in mind:

1) Compared to surgery, complicated F&A pathology, etc, the routine care is very easy, though; it doesn't take a long time to learn.
2) After a little while, doing rountine case after case as a student (or worse, a resident) just turns you into a workhorse that is making more money for the attending docs.

You want some routine caren experience, especially when you are beginning as a clinical student (new 3rd year). It's good stuff to start out with since it's easy. However, you should be gradually exposed to a VARIETY of patients in clinics... bunions, flatfoot, wounds, pre-ops, post-ops, sports injuries, private insurance patients, poverty patients, young patients, old patients etc etc. If you go to pod school clinic and nearly every patient is there for geriatric nail care, that is certainly not ideal. You will run into those "nail clinics" at some places, and it should raise questions since those are not very high quality student rotations. Your time could be better spent as a student... your school should let you see all kinds of pathology and make up your mind about what you want to focus on.

When you are done with school and out in practice, then it's up to you. Do you want "easiest money," or do you want to deal with "all that other stuff" and use your medical and sugical skills? To each his own. Most DPMs will do what they are trained for, and much of that depends on residency.

I don't get it though. You claim that at NYCPM, you mostly see routine foot care (the easy stuff), yet almost every DPM in NY and NJ graduated from there and they are very successful doing everything. The pod I've been shadowing does every kind of surgery and is a leader in his field. I've read a lot of info about others who are very reknowned. NY is sort of the mecca for podiatrists (partial joke...only say this because there is a podiatrist on every other corner...literally). If NYCPM wasn't training their students equal to other schools, how is it that their students land competitive residencies and end up doing so well afterwards?

I know...people are going to come back with "people from all schools are successful". Yes. That's not addressing the question I'm asking. I am not NYCPM's biggest fan. If I could, I would move elsewhere and have real options for schools. Given that I'm stuck where I am, I have to make the best of what I have. And that's between Temple and NYCPM. Obviously, I'm going to visit the schools multiple times and make my own decision. I just don't get how someone who never attended NYCPM knows how little they are trained.

Feli may be better suited to answer this than me but I would venture to say that residency is where you get the training. If a pod is ultra successful it is probably do to their residency training. The school gives you a foundation and the residency builds the rest, along with the standard line of work ethic, etc.

its a fact that NY state has one of the most restricted scopes of practice for DPMs in the nation. that may fuel this perception.

Now I've seen it all. Thanks for some quality entertainment  👍

It's called clerkships and talking to people in the know 😉

You can do well at NYCPM if you apply yourself; it has certainly been done before. However, if you are still pre-pod and debating between NY and Temple, I'd choose Temple hands down for a number of reasons (scope, major university support, admissions criteria, board pass rate, clerkship schedule, history, alumni, match success of grads, clinical patient variety, etc). Ok......Just booked Flight, hotel, and interview for OCPM on Oct. 10th

Staying @ Holiday Inn-----> They are only hotel that offer Shuttle TO/FROM airport & TO/FROM OCPM.....

If anyone wants to know, it's $89+ tax (not $85 like OCPM says in interview mail)......BUT, @least you save $$ for a taxi....

Oh, for those checking out on interview day morning,(like me) OCPM has an area for us to put our baggage & such....Just FYI....

Anyone else interviewing this day & hotel ???
😀😀

I submitted my application Thursday night. I was invited for an interview at Samuel Merrit on Friday and just recieved an invitation from DMU. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to schedule interviews? Should I do them in a certain order or just schedule them as they come in?
Thanks🙂

It helps out financially if you can schedule some interviews in the same trip (temple + NY), thats what I did coming from the west coast. Depends on where you come from and most schools, besides those two, aren't really close to any others. However, I'd also recommend to schedule as soon as you can as spots may fill up and you might not get the day you originally wanted.

I was just invited to Temple! I'm so excited! 😀

Cali, Ohio, Barry, and now NY woOooohoOoOoO

That's actually a really nice hotel.

oh yeah baby just submitted my app and my mcat scores, now just transcripts and my letters!

Anyone going to AZPod?

ya think?

I've lived out east my whole life. I've actually seen how podiatrists are percieved here and just how many there are. Have you spent a significant amount of time here to know?

And I'm not going to claim that NYCPM is good. The more I hear from actual students there (not badmouthers on here), the more I come to my own conclusions.

Like...Did you know that one of the third year students at NYCPM broke into their system and stole all their test answers. Almost every single student knows exactly who it is because he has a really high GPA but failed the boards. They have told the Dean of Preclinicals who it is, but nobody will do anything because he's such a "nice" guy and does so much research. He'll be our colleague some day and yet this school passes him on to possibly steal a residency from someone who worked their ***** off.

See, I'm weighing the pros and cons to each school. But the fact is, I might have to deal with going there so I'm trying to keep an open mind. I submitted my application but my scores won't be released till next month. Soon I'll be able to say for sure.

quincy, ive never been to NY in my life but the reason i laughed was the fact that NY has one of the most restricted scopes in the nation, but yet they're the "mecca" for podiatrists

received invites for temple, des moines, and samuel merritt. 👍

Hmm I haven't been on here in a few weeks and lots has happened lol congrats everybody who got interview invites!! 🙂 I put in my apps Monday and got contacted today by Temple, Samuel Merritt and Barry for interviews (yay!!) and got told by NYCPM and DMU that I need to get my LORs and transcripts in (which are on their way). I was going to ask how I should schedule interviews but I saw other posts before this talking about it.. I'm not really excited to have to pay for flights out west lol but I really want an excuse to travel a little! Luckily I'm 40 min from Temple and about 2 hours from NY so that'll save some money.. oh hell I'll probably drive to OCPM if I get an interview lol road trip!

Good luck to everyone, I hope you get interviews wherever you want to go! I know there's a lot of chit chat going on about what schools are good or not good enough, but honestly what matters more is if you work hard at getting experience so you can end up doing something you like for a living and hopefully being an awesome doctor! I know it's idealistic but honestly I'm really excited for Temple (it's my first choice because I loved what I saw at the open house and it's close to where I'm from), and I don't care if it's better or worse than anywhere else because it's a great fit for me!! 😀

The flights out to SFO (san fran) were really not bad at all. I just scored 1 way from JFK for $115 that is including all taxes!!! 👍 My return flight is on Virgin America (best airline in the United States hands down) and was about $140 with all taxes. Overall, VERY reasonable for coast to coast flights!

JEWmongous--

Maybe I missed it but why are you in the application cycle again?? Did you not interview last year?? Just wondering what your story was.

does temple invite for interviews through email or snail mail?

I have my Barry and OCPM interviews confirmed... I might apply to NYCPM later on in the year... I hadn't planned to.. but hey, what could it hurt? Although... I DID sadly get my rejection letter from Temple today 🙁 I'm not going to worry about it too much and just concentrate on my interviews that I have secured... but I would like to know, if I got the boot from Temple, what are my chances with NYCPM? Thanks guys!

I believe you should have a much better chance with NY. Temple is actually holding my application as of right now as well. They're having an admissions committee look over my whole file again because of my mcat scores. 😕

Dude, did you create a new profile just so you can comment on your own comments?! 😕 NAUthetaCHI1856 ans ThetaCHiNAU1856 can't be different people, right?
