Hi everyone, for people who already experienced what an interview is like for optometry schools, would you feel the interviewers would consider acceptance if they see that your grades have improved one semester after another or do they think one sided and say that "this student's grades were terrible from the start and even if he improved academically the poor grades he earned previously are unacceptable".

Well reason why I asked is that right out of high school my undergrad grades weren't great and were pretty low, but I am taking the time now to repeat those courses to get a higher grade. So would anyone think that the interviewers will consider acceptance if they see that my grades have only improved semester after semester? I am actually a long way from even applying for optometry school but I wanted to plan ahead and see if what I am doing now going to help at all with increasing my chances of acceptance.

For most of the interviews the interviewer doesn't even have access to your application/grades and they really are just trying to get a handle on your interest in optometry, your personality, and your communication skills. However, those that do ask about grades or know about them do like to see an increase in grades over the semesters if you did start off low. I started off my first year in college with extremely low grades due to some personal issues but have increased them significantly over the years and all of my interviewers have been happy to hear that. I was also nervous about my acceptance into optometry schools because my overall and science gpa ended up being low/average because of my first-beginning second year but I'm happy to say I'm doing well in the process so definitely apply to Optometry school in the future if that is where your passion is and just keep working hard on your grades!
