Can someone shed some light into the 'going abroad' for a year and then returning. I have heard of Canadian students going to australia for a year, were very close to getting in Canada so they reapplyed and got in. Is this feasible? Don't adcoms become weary of students who are currently enroleld in an MD school elsewhere. Can anyone comment if they know of a friend or family member who has been successful at this.

Thank you

I've heard of it happening, although uncommonly. One guy I know of got in on his fourth time applying after completing 3 years of school in europe. I wouldn't advise going abroad to med school, however, certainly not with the expectation of receiving an offer of admission to a canadian school in one year.

yeah I agree with the above, it's pretty uncommon. That being said, this year alone I know of at least four people who did it.
They went to UQ and Sydney and were accepted (after one semester in first year) to UBC, UofC and Mannitoba.

It is uncommon yeah, but I have to believe it'll happen somewhat since I'm applying down under next cycle...!!!
