So some of you might flame this thread saying there's no time, but let me preface it with this:

In undergrad, I was a part of quite a few intramural sport leagues. Occasionally, we would play against a team from our medical school. I was surprised to see so many people from the med school would come out to play soccer, but it turns out its a great study break for them.

I know that not all schools have access to intramural/recreation leagues, but for those that do, do you (or your classmates) participate in any of those sports? This is something I would definitely love doing while in dental school.

At UTHSCSA we have intramural leagues in the fall and spring. The sports are open to all students, faculty, and staff at the school. This includes dental, med, nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant, etc. We will also have a brand new gym on campus at the end of the spring -- it is being built by Spectrum! And the dental schools in Texas have a Dental Olympics every year -- a different school hosts it every spring (around April) and it is a big tournament for all dental students. There is basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, swimming, running, tennis, golf, etc.

Oh yeah... and there is time to work out and do intramurals, you just have to make the time. Some weeks are better than others as far as working out. For example, the past 3 weeks we only had one exam and a skills assessment each week so I had more time to work out. Next week though I have a pathology exam, operative skills assessment, periodontics final exam, fixed quiz, operative quiz, and we start removable pros. And the the following week we have fixed skills assessment. So I won't get to work out as much in the coming weeks. But you can work out every day if you choose to. There is a girl in my class who does -- you just have to decide how well you want to do, how much you need to study, and how much you want to sleep.

i play in every intramural sport possible. Love it.

I have a basketball game tonight.

Thanks for your replies everyone! Its good to see that people are active and are preparing to possibly play against me in the near future!

There's a LOT of intramurals available here at VCU. Quite a few of my classmates play~I don't, as I prefer to divide my free time between my wife & son and Call of Duty. 🙂

when i had my interview at MCG, the students said that the intramurals was the only thing that really kept them sane. haha. they had a pretty well established intramural program there.

im the same way you are man...i'm looking to play as many sports as possible (time permitting) if/when i get to dschool. when i was in undergrad (and grad school), the team i played for won just about all of them so i don't know what i would do if i couldn't do SOMETHING athletic.

There is plenty of time to do IM sports.

At Maryland, we play the other professional schools on campus- Law, Med, Pharm, Grad school. I play on the soccer team and we're currently defending our title from last spring.

I don't know what I would do without team sports. I'm currently on 2 soccer teams and a kickball team and would love to join another.

For those that say there isn't enough time, they are either inefficient or just unathletic overachievers.

lol. YUP! It's ordered tho~didn't go get it at the store. I'm Insane-busy till Monday, then I'll be pullin' a solid 8 hr shift fer sure. I'm kinda regretting not getting GoW2, as all my buddies play it, but CoD4 got me pretty hooked.

We have an intramural basketball team (in some classes 2) in each of our dental classes. There is enough time to do it.

we just won our first playoff game for im bball. Next week we bringing the pain and showing theose undergrads whose boss.

our flag football team fell apart this semester. we averaged 2-3 jammed fingers each game. one guy tore a tendon in his left pinky, had to get a cast, out of clinic for 6 weeks. Now, with graduation and WREB just around the corner, no one wants to play anymore!

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

That's actually a bit frightening. Maybe we should all stick to soccer. 😉

No ****.

We have had girls break fingers and a guy fracture (maybe displace?) a cervical vertebrae playing co-ed flag football.

I stick to soccer 🙂

SPORTS AWESOME!!! This is the best man

Speaking of injuries - a bunch of us get together once a week to play ultimate frisbee and about half of us are dental students. One of my buddies (a non-dental student) got taken down hard and hit his chin on the ground and busted a cusp off of #18. It was hilarious to see all of us crowding around him trying to get a good look and give him our opinions.

No team sports for you, huh guy? Sounds about right.

I'm ready to play some flag football. I played football for ten years and all through high school as a starting free safety including playing 7-on-7 every summer. I know my team can own the competition.
