Ok so I'm looking through my catalog and I see that there is principles of Biochem and intro to biochem, I think you know where I'm going with this which one should I take, I have the description for both

Intro to Biochem
The structures and functions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids and their reactions in metabolic pathways. Restricted to Nutrition majors. (Students can not earn credit in BCHM 251 and BCHM/BIOL 261 or BCHM 361)

Principles of Biochem
The structures and functions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids and their reactions in metabolic pathways. (Students cannot earn credit in both BCHM 261 and 361).

Prerequisites
Prerequisite: Chem 103 or CHEM 247

Oh wait I just found one simply called Biochemistry

Biochemistry
The structure and function of the major chemical components of biological systems are described. The major topics include water, buffers and pH; proteins; enzymes; carbohydrates; lipids; and vitamins. Fall Prerequisites
Prerequisite: CHEM 247

Is this slightly confusing or is it just me? Obviously intro is probably easier so if they have the same description shouldn't I just take intro? I hate when these kinds of things happen, cause then you have to call the school blah blah blah LOL!

I would say the higher the level, the more likely a vet school will accept it. Probably Biochemistry is what I would take, but call schools if you have any questions. If truly in doubt, find out which one med/vet students at your school take and take that one.

I agree with Lalzi. I believe most schools want your Biochemistry class to be upper-division, so the highest level would probably be the safest bet.

I think most of them want a Biochem class that has Orgo as either a pre- or co-requisite.

Thanks everyone. After all that I found out it's just the plain old biochem and not principles or intro. Thanks for the fast replies though. I'm so freakin' scared of biochem:scared:

I really enjoyed biochem. There are a lot of pathways, but it's interesting and much better than orgo (for me, at least).

I was going to tell you the same thing all these nice people did...higher level is best.
My school was wierd...you had a semester of "General Biochemistry" and then everyone in my department was required to take a semester of "Nutritional Biochemistry".

Biochem was my most feared class too. If you have any doubts at all about your ability to do well, hire a good tutor. It will only cost you a few hundred bucks total and it is so nice to have someone on your team. Think of a tutor as a very inexpensive insurance policy. :luck:

I'm taking biochem right now and orgo is a prereq but it has so far been much easier and way more enjoyable than orgo.
