Hey everyone,

Has anyone taken this class to fulfill a math or logical reasoning requirement? how is it? is it problem solving intensive? does it require lots of time?

And also, if you can give your opinion about the following situation:

I am a biology major and psychology minor; I am currently taking

Physics
Upper level Bio course
Logic
upper level Psyc class
upper level psyc class

I am planning to add one or two research lab credits to my schedule and have the choice of dropping either logic or one of the upper level psych courses. I can then take the one I drop next sem.
I don't know which to drop, if you guys were in my boat, taking physics and upper level bio course, which would you drop if you had the choice?

Thanks, I know its kind of arbitrary, but I am having a hard time deciding.

The concepts are easy to understand. It does require you to do lots of problems in order to fully grasp the concepts. There's lots of strategies that you can use to help you get the right answers. I took it in 8 weeks while taking physics II, genetics, biology of aging. I think that this class could also help with improving one's verbal score, but that's just a guess of mine and I won't ever know if it would because I never took the MCAT prior to taking this course.

symbolic logic was one of the best classes i've ever taken. it's like math but somehow a lot more satisfying, lol. and if you pay even an ounce of attention in class, it's really easy. probably a lot easier than the psych classes you're looking at. so if you have a busy semester i'd probably recommend it

Loved it, concepts are easy to grasp and are intriguing
it doesnt really fill up any requirements as far as i know though (my intro to logic was part of the philosophy department)

I took a course like this freshmen year of college way back in Aug 02 lol. Cant remember a thing.

Hey at the very least the silly logic'y things you learn will help you debunk others attacks on your SDN posts. OMG chillz out with ur straw man/adhominem/modus tollens/chain rule attacks on my postzors

I took Introduction to Logic (in Philos dept as well) last year. The first half is just learning about syllogisms and functions like AND, OR, NOT, IF, THERE EXISTS, ALL to make statements and solving truth tables of those statements. The second and much harder half is solving proofs in which you're given premises and have to prove the conclusion is true (like you did in geometry but harder).

It's pretty fun and useful. And yes, it's problem-solving intensive, but not time-consuming or all that difficult. After all, it's an intro class.

We had an Intro to Logic at my UG and it was a beast of class... At least for those that took it. It was a Computer Science course for those who were interested in software design or engineering. It was not a class you can just coast through.

I'm guessing since you're a Bio and Psych major you are talking about Logic in the Philosophy dept.. I've heard mixed things about that one. But it is really school and professor dependent. You should look up the profs and decide which one you think you will enjoy more.

If it's the circuits logic course, drop that one.... like a bad habit.
