  1. Pre-Dental
Hello,
My name is Aaron and I am pursing a career as a dentist. I did a four month internship with a dentist my senior year of high school and I loved it😎 . I am currently a freshman in college attending Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, FL.

I have a question about what math courses to take. My top choice for school is UF. On their prerequisites page, they say to take statistics. So, I signed up for a stats class for next semester. Would it be a good idea to take calc as well? I don’t want to take calc if it is unnecessary. Are there calculus level questions on the QR of the DAT?

Thanks!
Aaron😀

Geometry, trigonometry, and probability are what you will find on the DAT.

There are no calc. questions on the DAT. Most schools don't require calculus. I think Harvard might, but that's it. I'd take Trig. instead of calc. There's quite a bit of trig. questions on the QR of the DAT.
Good luck

Majors like biology and chemistry require calculus. Most applicants will have recieved an undergraduate degree before dental school matriculation. If you are planning on getting an undergraduate degree in science, take calculus and get it over with. Out of my respect for math, calculus is really interesting and practical, I'd take it.

You might need it for Physics. I know at my school there was only calculus-based Physics available. Without it, you'd be screwed.

i recommend taking calc... both I and II. dont need to go into multivariable.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I double checked and I do need it for my major. So it looks like I will be taking calc. I was hoping to save a little money, lol! Have a great day.
