Hello Everyone,

I just signed up for the SDN.

I have applied to Dental Schools in end of September 2010 (according to portal they recieved apps around 2nd wk of October 2010) I think I may be in "late applying" part...

GPA Science: 3.4
Non-Scneice: 3.2
DAT: 18 AA/17 Science AVG/ 21 Reading/17 PAT
dental shadowing+research exp.(publications)
Major: Biochemistry

Unfortunatley I havent recieved any interviews yet except some "application denied" 🙁

Following are the schools I am still waiting to hear about invite for interview:

Boston University Henry M Goldman
Columbia University college of Dental medicine
The Maurice H Kornberg School of Dentistry: TempleUniversity
Tufts
University of Maryland
University of Penn
New York University
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
University of Pittsburgh
Universty of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry

I would really appreciate any feedback regarding when the schools send the invites by or any other suggestions....

I am just feeling it is kind of late regarding invites (So perhaps I shall prepare for the next cyle? )

Have you tried calling each school and asking? I know Tufts is still interviewing since I have a buddy that just got an invite, but I can't speak for the other schools. I'd suggest giving them a jingle and asking if they can inform you where they are at in interviewing and see if there are anymore interview dates available.

retake the DAT. your gpa seems fine, especially with a biochem major. 18 AA is relatively low, but the 17 TS and PAT is where its pretty low. study hard, and retake it, and apply earlier next cycle if you dont hear anything this cycle. Goodluck.

UNC is done with their class.

It is getting more and more competitive each cycle. Your DAT scores would probably not be considered competitive enough. If you haven't heard back from any schools by March/April, you should plan on retaking the DAT. Most successful applicants have DAT scores of 20+ in all sections. Good luck.

He got invited maybe 10 days ago, dont know the exact date, but when he called he got put on the interview waitlist. Got off the waitlist and is interviewing the 22nd I want to say.

And OP, after looking back at your DAT scores I would definitely retaking them as others above mentioned. Just shows the way I think, since I first looked at the other things mentioned like the tough major and research experience. I dont like numbers 😛

@ Spit: I havent called the schools.. However, sent an update letter couple weeks ago..

In nutshell, I agree it is getting competetive with each cycle os retaking the DAT would be good idea!

I suppose to be persistent is the key here...

You need to retake the DAT. An 18 total with a 17 sciences won't cut it, especially since your GPA is on the low end of the spectrum.

The other major problem you have is that you applied in September. The application opened June 3, so you gave thousands of applicants a 3-4 month head start on you. You can't do that, especially with lower stats like you have.

If you can, take a few extra classes to try and give you a GPA boost. Start preparing now because it is very likely that you will have to reapply next year.
