how do you tell which atom has the most ionic character?
djeffreyt said:Ionic character is determined by whether or nto an atom is willing to take on or give up an electron. The Noble gases have very low ionic character, while the atoms in the columns to the left or right of the noble gases have the strongest ionic character. Thus, F- is more ionic than O2- and same for the cations.
If you are talking about ionic molecules, not atoms, like HF or NaCl, that's a little different.
