Did anybody apply to Iowa on this board? Anybody get the email from Iowa that they are in the final review phase and will have a decision by March 15 or have most people heard from them durng their rolling phase?

Yeah, I got that email Jan 30. I interviewed early December and that was the only thing I heard from Iowa since.

I wonder how full the class is. I know they do not fill their class through rolling admission, so there are still regular admissions spots left. And of course there's the waitlist.....

Are you an Iowa resident? If so, where from?

From what I've seen, not too many people on SDN applied to Iowa.

SurgeryRA - clearly we did apply to all the same schools! I applied to Iowa and got a big fat rejection from them about a month ago!

Better luck to you!

Hey Lochmoor - Check your pm box.

MNGrrl,

Thanks. Any word from Minn. or Creighton? Did you apply to mostly schools in the midwest? I was hoping that Minn. would, by some miracle, get back to me before the 2 months they told us to expect. Anyways, good luck!

Hey, Yes I got the email saying I was in the final pool, and I interviewed in Oct (I accidently missed the deadline to update my file though, so I'm probably out : ( ). I'm an out of stater though, so I'm not sure if it would be different. I got the impression that they accept most people in the final pool.

Woo hoo, I'm in the final pool too. I'll probably just withdraw because I got accepted to the school I wanted to go to.

Rebeclette- when in October did you interview?

I think it was around the 10th or something, it was like their second interview day.

Here's what the admissions officers told me the interview day:
1. We may accept you w/in a week or two of your interview and you'll get a letter soon, but this is less common.
2. Or, you'll be placed in the hold category until March 15th and then they mail out the largest chunk of the acceptances.

Good luck w/ Iowa everyone!

lizzylu, are you planning on attending Iowa? Or are you trying/going to go elsewhere?

Congrat's on your acceptance to Iowa a while ago.

Lochmoor--
Thanks, as of now, Iowa here I come! I'm still waiting on a couple Cali schools, but the odds these days are back to corn and soy beans 😉

Not to burst any bubbles, but my impression was that the final pool included everyone Iowa interviewed --of course minus the people who got in through rolling admission.

Hey lochmoor-
I think it is pretty much like you said. I know there are some people that have been rejected before the final pool. I think most of those were out of state applicants though. How is the process going for you since the last time I talked to you? Have you heard back from SLU?

No new news....I had an interview last week and another one coming up next week and that'll probably be it. No news from SLU.....they're probably thinking reject, but just want to wait.

Congrat's on SLU by the way!! Hopefully Iowa will come soon for the both of us🙂

Thanks Lochmoor. I'm sure you'll hear good news soon. I'm counting down to that March 15th date also. I wonder if there is any chance they will send out decisions before that. The impression that I got was that they start making final decisions in February through March 15, and mail them all out at once.

Yeah, I'll probably start really worring about that on the 15th if I havent heard anything. After having too much information for WU adcom stuff, I think I've learned my lesson. Ignorace is bliss.

the cool thing about iowa is that they let you know exactly where you are if you get put on the waitlist. it saves so much agony if you know that youre listed number 32 on the out of state waitlist. thats the most awesome thing about iowa -- they show the most love to premeds.

i don't think there's much longer to wait. i think i remember hearing that they began sending out acceptances at the end of feburary/beginning of march last year. i also know that you could check your application status on ISIS last year; I would check it, but I don't think my password is valid any more, though it was last semester (i took one class there summer of '02).

ISIS stands for "Iowa Student Information Systems" or something like that. while a student, you can check on your grades, your U-bill, etc. i should have added to my last post that it's completely possible that they've changed the way they're doing things this year. when i was more nervous about getting into medical school, i remember looking through SDN posts about UI and seeing something about a letter that they sent out with an ISIS username and password, though evidently that didn't happen this year.

If they started sending out acceptances at the end of Feb/beginning of March last year, has anybody in the final pool this year heard any news yet?

Nope, I haven't heard anything, and the email I got from them said that I wouldn't hear anything before the 15th, but I'm an out of stater.

SurgeryRA,
Parlay my friend, Parlay indeed.

bump again. I think letters should be here any time now.

Did anyone in the final pool go to the University of Iowa? I didn't, but my family lives there. Just wondering what everyone's opinions of 4 years in Iowa City is.

I didn't go to undergrad there, but all of my high-school friends did.

Their consensus is that Iowa City is a fun party-town, but after 4 years it starts to get small and you're ready to leave. However keep in mind that partying in undergrad will probably be quite different from partying in med school.

Iowa can kiss my a$$. Iowa city sucks, living here is horrible. the school can eat my.........anyway, as my bitterness states, the official rejection came today. Congrats to all those that got in...iowa city is actually pretty cool.

Got mine today too. In state waitlist. Hopefully there is some record breaking waitlist movement, because apparently the instate waitlist doesn't move much. Oh well+pissed+

SurgeryRA, you can kiss my a$$ as well 😀 .....see you tonight at the bars my dejected friend.

I got back an affirmative from Iowa today, so the final pool is being contacted. Good luck to y'all.

I an an out-of-state applicant. I interviewed January 21. I got a U of Iowa acceptance letter today, postmarked March 9.

Bad Mojo, Do you live in Texas now? Just wondering how long it's taking for Iowa mail to get to south Texas.

I'm in Ausin and got a letter today.

ARG!!! The wait is KILLING me. I can't believe your only a little of an hour away and already got word!!! I hope this isn't a bad sign.

College Station, but not for much longer...

Hey All, just to calm your nerves about bad signs I guess, I'm in the bay area and I got my out of state waitlist notice on friday (I forgot to update my file in time, oops!) So they must have mailed the letters all at once, so if your's is taking longer its probably not a bad sign! I'll giving up my spot on the waitlist, I'm not sure I'll be helping anyone because I'm kind of far down, but maybe I will.
Good luck everyone!
