Iowa

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Went to check my status page and noticed they've updated thier site. I don't think there's any new info, but it's just organized different.

Thought others might want to know.

Any news on 2nd/3rd round interview invites anyone??

no news here yet. still under academic review. when are the 2nd/3rd interview round dates?

it would be good to know that way after a certain date i know not to wait and be hopeful anymore:luck:

Second round is Jan 9-10 and third is Jan 17-18.

thanks.

I guess if we don't hear by jan 15th, it's a no go

Soo... nothing is probably is going to be it huh..

I thought I remember reading or seeing somewhere that they try to give a few weeks notice (somewhere b/w 2-4, I think)? If that's true, then that time is fast approaching to hear something for those who are invited for the 2nd and 3rd interview rounds.

I called two weeks ago... they said by the end of this month.. does anyone know if they interview a decent amount of contract apps?

I don't know about Iowa, but I think the general rule is to interview ~5 students or fewer for each seat.

Good luck everyone! I'm already getting nervous about checking my email... :scared:

I had gotten my interview invite 2.5 weeks before my interview date (even though they said they'd notify us 3-4 weeks in advance!), so I'm assuming that they will follow suite for the next interview sets which means people should be hearing from the adcoms by now!

Boy, ISUCVM sure knows how to build tension! The only new thing I noticed on their updated website was that they put a "Class of 2013" link on the first page, which leads to tons of info for whoever gets an acceptance. That makes me anxious because it seems like they are planning to make a few acceptance decisions already and want those people to have some information at hand! @.@ Like I said...tension! XD

Good luck to everyone...I know it's nerve wracking to have to wait but I'm pulling for all of you!

I called again today, and I doubt anyone was in.. they probably won't be back until after christmas... ah... I'm so pulling for at least an interview, I don't need to be accepted but to maybe kind of have the chance would be awesome.

HOw do you log in and check your status now? The page I had bookmarked is no longer coming up. Can someone post a link to the new login page?

Wow! You noticed that too? I thought it was just me. I saw that site and was like Oooooooooo, I wanna know soooo bad. I was all resolved to wait until March like my many years before, but since the interview, I can hardly stand it. I love the website redesign, its very snazy, and shows off the new large animal facility...which is the awesomist! (excuse the made up word😉)
Yeah, I did notice it! Hah hah. I like this new web design too!

Let's hope I can get some patience as a Christmas present! 😀 Seeing as how Iowa is taking their time getting interview invites sent out, well, it makes me not worry so much about not hearing from them yet about post-interview stuff. lol I love made-up words! 😛 Hope your Christmas is the awesomist!

So I was reading the keep us updated admission process... do you really think they took all of the out of staters? And would I technically be out of state if we have a contract?

So an update for all us ISU hopefuls... I called again haha.. they are going to get annoyed with me. But they said they sent out a few this morning, but only for IS students. And that they did not finish the OSS yet. So we will be the last weekend, and there has been no descions made... they are taking their sweet time..

and I'm so anxious, I only applied to 3 schools.

Raimes,

Well I am glad for the update but I am so frustrated about not hearing anything. I seriously jumped out of bed this morning to check my email, and now I find out that since I'm OOS I have to wait even longer! Hey, the good news is, it's not over yet for us OOS'ers!!

Good luck everyone!:xf::luck:

Haha, me too! I'm anxious to hear from UPenn as well. Stupid Christmas getting in the way of everything. Hmph.

so when are us OOS applicants expecting to hear?

dreamvet, I'm guessing within the week. Since there's about three weeks until the last interview weekend left, they should give you at least a couple weeks notice.

Raimes, thanks for posting that info! The good thing about them taking their time is that you know that they aren't just rushing through our applications or post-interview info (for those who have had interviews). They really do want the best students at their school, so the long wait means that they are doing a nice and thorough job. ^_^

Good luck to everyone!

Thank you muchly... 🙂

I'm assuming we are going to hear within the next week or so...

Idk.. I'm getting too excited I have to stop... I always feel like I will jinx myself.. good thing I have something to keep me occupied. (Someone royally screwed up one of my grades... don't worry I'm sure I'll post about it.)

Does anyone have the phone # for Iowa? I've looked @ the CVM website and can not find that info!

Edit: Nevermind, I finally found it!

got the interview invite!!!

Aw man, I told myself that I would NOT check my email for a full 24 hours and NOW, YOU GUYS are making me want to break that vow, big time.

Guess I shoulda sworn off SDN for 24 hours too!

Congrats to everyone who got an invite today 🙂... Hope I have one waiting for me, too:xf:

YAY YAY YAY YAY!

See all of you Jan 17th 18th!

(I couldn't wait past midnight to check)

Congrats everyone and good luck!! 🙂 :luck:

I haven't heard anything, so I'm hoping that they are sending out more invites within the next few days. I would call but they were closed when I called yesterday, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow. But....just curious, what does everyone who got an interview say on their Iowa status page? Mine has said "Academic Review" for like 3 months 😱....

hey all.

i'm trying to plan my flight up. which airport should i fly in to?

hey all.

I would recommend the Des Moines International Airport, since it's roughly half an hour from Ames. The other airports in the area are 2-3 hours away.

My status page still says "Academic Review" as well. Good luck, rachroo! :luck:

So for those of us that didn't hear ... does that mean we are rejected? Does anyone know if there is going to be more invites?

I'm going to try and call tomorrow to find out. 😕 :scared::xf: :luck:

Thanks - please post anything you find out!!!

I have a dilemma where I signed up for Biochem this spring b/c Iowa wasn't happy with the one I took, but I really want to drop the class if I didn't get an invite. They haven't changed my status page except to say the issue was "resolved" w/ the Biochem (since I sent them the registration info). So I'm really wondering what to do!

I've called twice and gotten the machine, so I guess they're off today as well. 🙁

Last year they did waves of interviews through mid-February. I got my invite mid-Jan to interview in late Jan, so don't worry just yet.

:luck::luck::luck:

Did anyone try printing out the Interview RSVP page?

I was using Yahoo mail and the first page (the offer of interview letter) printed out just fine, and then the second page (RSVP) was complete gibberish!😕

I guess I'll try again but was wondering if anyone had the same problem... Also I was trying to figure out if I could fill it out on the computer and email it back to them. I'm guessing a cut and paste into Word might be the best option there, but if anyone has a better idea  LMK.

Cheers!

starlene, you can reply to the email they sent you to RSVP.... I just erased all the stuff at the top and kept the RSVP part and filled it in. Don't bother cutting and pasting!

meadow and rachroo, there was an option to decline the interview on our invitation, and I imagine some people may have chosen to do that for various reasons. If I were you, I wouldn't drop classes just yet!

I highly doubt they have sent out all the emails for the jan 17/18th. So therefore.. you still don't know they've decided anything.. I think there going as close to the dates as they can, I don't know why..

If it helps, I received an interview invitation this week and my status page still says Academic Review.

turkey-- brilliant! i am obviously still a little exhausted from working emergency on new years eve (did all my partying the day before, and that was a good thing b/c nye was seriously hardcore at my ER). thanks again!😀

Sure thing! Glad I could help. It's great that you had fun on New Year's Eve!

I would recommend the Des Moines International Airport, since it's roughly half an hour from Ames. The other airports in the area are 2-3 hours away.

DSM (Des Moines International) is the way to go for sure, but just so you're prepared, it's much closer to an hour drive from the airport to the CVM. It can be pricey to fly into DSM though, because it is a small airport. So if you can get a cheap flight into Omaha, Minneapolis, or Kansas city, it may be worth the 3-4 hour drive.

Resource: Living in Iowa and going to school at the University New Hampshire = flying back and forth a lot for breaks etc. 👍

Here is a Q for everyone who has already interviewed, or received their interview date: How long did it take them to get back to you with a confirmed interview date/time once you sent the RSVP in?

I'm going to fill mine out tonight so that they get it on Monday, but would like to try to buy a plane ticket sooner rather than later!

I got my confirmation 8 days later. It may take some time for them to get back to you since they will have to process lots of RSVPs and organize dates and times.

...this is true. I'd just finished reading the interview itinerary (which has underestimated 'approximate driving times' for nearby airports) so I had '30 minutes' stuck in my head. Gah! 😳

I got my confirmation 2 days later... probably because I RSVP'd something like an hour and a half after the invites were sent out 🙄

I have another question for those of you who have interviewed already. Is there a set schedule for things like the tour and the meeting with students and whatnot? If so, how was that set up when you all interviewed? Were you there all day or do you think it would be okay to come for the interview on Saturday evening and come back for the extra stuff on Sunday morning? Sorry for all the questions... I'm just trying to figure out what would be the best time to schedule a flight...
