iPhone Apps?

So I finally stepped into this century and got an iphone 3G. Now I'm trying my hardest to fill it up with apps! 🙂 Anyone got any favorite apps, medical related, student related or just fun? I'm assuming there is no SDN app eh?

I've got epocrates, medscape, even webmd. Trying them out to see what I like.

Well, if you're feeling super educational, you could spring for the "Anatomy Lab" app.

For more general educational use, you could try out Mental Case or any of the numerous flash card apps...

Stanza's good for eBooks.

Granted, my favorite is iBird, but I doubt many will be interested in that one.

For tracking your packages, try JuneCloud's Deliveries app.👍👍👍👍

If you're into playing the guitar at all, check out GuitarToolkit.

(Not that you need it for anything for a long while, but epocrates access is usually granted free to med students.)

If you have facebook the facebook app is fairly good.
Sportacular - great if you like to follow sports.
Shazam - app that allows you to identify music by holding the phone up to the speaker.
Scramble 2 - fun little game for when you are bored in class.
I think that's all the apps I have. I see no reason for any medically related apps considering I won't be doing any diagnosing anytime in the near future. But to each his own I guess.

Stop being a tool and get those medical applications off of your phone. That's like a premed going out and buying a stethoscope. It's ridiculous.

Just get some games like StickWars. Maybe a flashcard program.

Edit: Oh and if you simply must have something medically related I believe that there is a version of Amateur Surgeon for the iphone.

I'm a non-trad going back to school guys, I've worked in health care for years, so I use them from time to time myself. Plus my mentor (whom I shadow the most) likes to punk me in front of people all the time, thinks its funny (we have known each other for over 10 years) so his partner told about one of them and how he likes to use it to stump him. 🙂

By the way I got the cheap upgrade to just the 3G. Not enough difference to pay the extra for the 3GS to me. Anyone got any good wine apps? Seen a few but haven't heard from anyone who had them.

Love the weather channel one, much better than the iphone weather. Need to look into Nimbuzz.

How good is the tuner on that app? Cause I just went out and bought a $30 tuner and would have definitely gotten that instead had I known about it. I'm only a beginner so I'm not into spending a ton on guitar accessories just yet.

Seems pretty good to me, but I'm not the word's greatest guitarist either... Lots of preset alternate tunings, chord book, and metronome. 🙂

Maybe because they have an interest in medicine? I don't see how them being Pre-Med would have any affect on their iPhone applications, this is like saying "Why do you have the iMoon app, your not an astronaut."

No, it's not. The apps he was describing are made for the purpose of diagnostics. Unless you work in a medical field, there really is no need to have diagnostic medicine applications. Also, the correct form is "you're," not "your."

If you guys end up going to med school with college-like scheduled courses and homework, the myHomework app will be useful to you (it's free via iTunes!). If you end up going to schools with block scheduling where you learn a different thing every week, the app just won't do.

I do use a list app, though, so check out Things.


Both Gray's and Netter's have anatomy flash cards, if you get bored. Can't speak for Gray's as I haven't tried them, but the Netter's ones seem nice.

I was going to recommend lots of other handy things, but you'd have to jailbreak your phone first.

Yeah, the drug interaction parts are simply for the purpose of diagnostics 🙄

Plus I do have them because I'm extremely interested in medicine and diagnostics I guess I couldn't possibly have fun learning on my own right. Plus I am in "a medical field", read my posts.

I just turned 32 actually, I'll be the old creepy guy in the back of the class 🙂 Actually I get frickin carded trying to buy a beer so most people can't tell. Will be great when I'm 80 just finishing my residency. I've done just about everything in healthcare haha. I started as a phlebotomist and then became an EMT then went back to be a lab tech, and now I work as a medical assistant to a group of physicians. I just can't decide what I want to be when I grow up I guess.

This isn't medical related, but "Shazam" is an awesome app. It's for those times when you hear a song on the radio, go "I LOVE this song, but I don't know the artist/name!"

Fear not, turn on Shazam, hold it up to the speaker for a second, and woo-lah, it returns you the name, artist, album, and brings you to the Youtube video (if there is one).

I've done just about everything in healthcare haha. I started as a phlebotomist and then became an EMT then went back to be a lab tech, and now I work as a medical assistant to a group of physicians. I just can't decide what I want to be when I grow up I guess.

Well for someone paying for their own education and career change it's worked so far. My original education was in music. Actually I would recomend phlebotomy to undergrads, decent pay and great schedule while going to school.

Some people are actually interested in medicine and use apps like that for fun. I've been reading medical textbooks most of my life because I'm just a dork like that--so what? If it's something I enjoy doing why wouldn't I do it?

I also use a sleep sounds app to help with my insomnia, and a To Do list to keep track of things I need to do, and just the built-in calendar software for appointments 🙂

My residency program allows me to buy apps with my CME money, so I hve spent over $1200 on apps (medical apps are so expensive).

I'm a huge lexi-comp fan. I love rhapsody. Beejive IM is awesome. And, I'm posting from the native iPhone app tapatalk. Yup, native app for sdn.

Eh, I guess mostly dosing. But also a fair bit of looking up mechanism/class/generic of a trade name I'm not familiar with.

Medscape also has a drug database app out that's pretty good and basically looks/works like epocrates.

ESPN scorecenter is great. I also have NBA league pass to watch every NBA game anywhere live on my phone! The I Am T-Pain app is fun too. Also get "Tower Free," very addictive.

Long shot here I know....

I'm thinking of getting back into some phlebotomy (decent money, hours, etc) before med school starts. Like it because I can set my own hours a bit. However its been several years since working as a phleb and more since getting certification.

Anyone know of an iphone app that gives tube colors for tests? Can't seem to find one and it would be great since I have long since forgotten the tube colors. Doesn't look like Epoc, Medscape, or webmd really have anything for it either.
