I'm an MS2 interested in IR, but haven't found many IR specific research projects to get involved in. However, there's need for MS help on a project that's more DR/rad-onc geared. Will this project look good to programs, or should I keep seeking out IR stuff?

For integrated IR residencies, IR specific research and attendance at IR regional and national meetings is valuable.

For ESIR where you are applying to DR initially, DR research would be fine.

IR-specific research is useful but not necessary (even for integrate IR spots). It's useful because it kills two birds with one stone: 1. completion of research makes you look motivated and reliable to follow things through AND 2. it illustrates your interest in the field. You can accomplish both of these without doing IR-specific research or even research at all. Do what interests you and do it well with passion.
